Hey guys just wondering where the plug is that gets moisture in it and shorts out? Mine have not worked for some time and now something is completely shorting out and blowing the 10a fuse IG1 No2 causing all my heater functions as well as heated seats and mirrors to not work. Fuse blows as soon as I change it at power up the truck. From what I understand these options are on the same circuit.

do you have ANYTHING, that is wired aftermarket at or near the bsm sensors, warning lights? ie: meso puddle pods, etc...? if so... that is where I would look first. other than that, I got nothin. good luck, Ski

If BSM is turned off, does the fuse still blow? I think there's a separate controller for BSM and Parking Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Likely, if the rear facing ultrasonic transceivers have an issue, they can be replaced. Therefore the connection point must be very near the sensor, and my guess is behind the bumper.
Getting under the truck, you must see a wire bundle/harness going to the bumper for the license plate lights. It might also hold the wiring for the sensors. Follow those back.

How are you sure it's not the heated seats that are blowing the fuse?

take a look at this... looks like the wire harness with connector will likely terminate right at the sensor itself.

Ya I get that but I believe there is a harness section that gets water in it and shorts out just not sure what connection it is.

When I got rear ended, my bsm radar was damaged. My bumper cap was flapping and I got a good look at the radar and the plug that goes to it. There’s not any sort of cover or enclosure protecting the plug (which isn’t water proof/resistant) at all.
I would pull the bumper caps and check the connections on both bsm modules. You may be able to unplug them, clean the connections and then wrap or seal the wiring harness and not plug them back in. Then you would just leave the bsm button off

well its at the dealer now hoping since they started the BSM repair while in warranty that they will finish it for free! I am hoping when they fix it and or fix the heater issues it is all related and no charge for me... fingers crossed...

I had the same problem and had to figure it out on my own - Toyota didn’t figure this out and replaced my fuse after my truck had been under cover and warmed for four hours in their garage, so the fuse didn’t blow right away, and it made it look like they fixed it by replacing the fuse when I had done that many times before! No one listens to a girl who isn’t a mechanic on her troubleshooting..

I removed my bumper and my right side. BSM was exposed and the connection was corroded. I cleaned it off and applied dielectric grease and wrapped it really well so water couldn’t get in there. It lasted a year and now has blown again. I took off the cap and this is what I found!

My question is how do people disable the BSM system when switching out bumpers? Can I capEF2247FF-24D0-46C5-A0FC-D415576F5672.jpg 86DEE35F-508D-4289-BC2C-FFEC67C4863E.jpg the harness connection and still have my heater and fan work? so far unplugging it has not worked, but maybe it is because it was still damp?

Have you had any recalls done for it? There is a recall or TSB to replace the sensors as well as one for the harness.
They have ordered new sensors for mine under warranty and recall thankfully.

Ha ha! Well I DO live in Canada where the roads are salted to shit in the winter! There’s also a crack in the cover that prob doesn’t help. Plus last year we saw record flooding in my area (near where the catastrophic floods from the Nooksack River in the US flooded the Fraser Valley/Sumas) so I was forced to drive through super flooded roads.
Side note on flooding/corrosion: my 4x4 actuator also got corroded from the flood drives and needed replacing which I did. There’s a stupid breather hose that’s not long/high up enough and it sucked in water..

I can’t find one in Canada. I see that it was posted for 2016 Tacoma’s, and I will be pissed if it is valid in Canada because 3 years ago when my BSM system stopped working, I took it to a dealership and they said there was nothing they could do to help me because my warranty had passed.

Fluid film/wool wax/blaster surface shield is a vehicles best friend in the rust belt. Coat everything underneath in that heavily once you get it repaired. I could eat off my 18 frame if I clean the coating off even driving 200+ miles a day

Just piggybacking on this as I am also having BSM issues that started yesterday. Can anyone confirm if there is a TSB or recall for BSM? I don't need it to work but as it is a safety feature of the truck I would like it to work.

I started getting the notification on the dash and then the light on the button started flickering. Now nothing happens when I press the button. Will be checking connections and fuses shortly but it would be nice not to have another goose to chase.
