Any follow up on this? I’m having the same issue with the blown fuse. I physically disconnected the BSM button on the dash, that work for a bit until I hit the heated mirror switch and now blows that fuse again….

I recently was rear ended on the driver side and I end up having to rebuild the rear bumper. The 10 Amp fuse kept blowing when ever the BSM was reconnected by the harness. There was no apparent damage to the the BSM module nor the harness it was connected to. Even after opening up the module I couldn't see any damage nor corrosion on the circuit board. Leaving it connected kept blowing the 10 amp fuse and that fuse is tied to windows, heater/ac, SRS light, and other stuff. So I end up tossing it out and just getting a cheap used one on ebay ($125) and ever since i replaced it I haven't had any issue with it. Works great and everything is functioning. I guess these modules are very sensitive and maybe design to fail after it's subjugated to impact?

Mine the dealer says is faulty sensors shorting out. I think they are wrong because once they brought it in the warm dry shop and had it all disconnected they came to that conclusion. But when I picked it up the heater works again. Everything except the bsm. No more blown fuses. There was no corrosion on the plugs at the sensor they said but my theory is it doesn’t have to be corroded to short just like putting a toaster in a bathtub will shock you because water conducts electricity not because of corrosion. Still waiting on new sensors as they are on back order.

I’ll have a look on eBay, my initial thought was to just delete the damn thing. Remove the sensor, plug and seal the connections. Do you think that would also work?

if that is the problem yes. Also check your heated seats as they are the same circuit. Also check out miss fortunes post on it someone walked her through what fuses etc to pull and check to narrow it down.

It was definitely it… took off bumper cover to investigate and the sensor just disintegrated. If I were to cut the connector and seal the wires with electrical tape would that be better? Or do I seal the connector and hope no water finds its way in?

I would leave the plugs and just tape th sh@t out of them incase you or the next owner wants to replace them.

No offense but this is a good reminder to stay away from trucks out east.

That is one hell of a poor place to put any module. Shame on you Toyota!

Agreed - Ford's location where the BSM is mounted or integrated into the tail lights seemed to be a better solution. From both a corrosion standpoint and also opening up options for rear bumper replacement.

relax, truck is fine. The location of the BSM sensor is a bad design and leaves it vulnerable to debris launched from the rear tire such as mud, salt and rocks. Once mud is in there it is also hard to clean out, I only noticed once I removed the bumper cap how much gunk was in there. My assumption is that overtime the moisture from the mud rotted out the sensor to the point of disintegration. Placing sensors in bumpers is a poor design in my opinion. The quality of the sensors are questionable as well, there is a recall in the US currently on these sensors precisely because of this. I will be submitting a complaint to Toyota Canada in hopes they will extend this recall to Canada.

don't cut it. If you plan to no longer use BSM then just coat the connector with dielectric grease and cover with duck tape.
