My Tacoma is a '14 with Entune Premium w/JBL and Nav. (Your method may vary.)

I've seen posts where owners have mentioned their phone's music players start up by themselves when the engine is started. (I think someone said the 3.1 update fixed that for them, but that update doesn't appear to apply to the '14's.)

This happens on mine too, but the behavior appears to be related to the fact that the system attempts to connect to a registered phone (or other device) via BT on startup. Since nearly all phones have music players, when phones are initially registered the system creates hooks for both the phone and "media" player. This enables it to connect to both on startup. I've found that if I was last using the music player at shutdown and therefore had the "Source" set to "BT", then that source is remembered and the music player starts on the next startup. If the "Source" was last set to something else, like "FM", then the music doesn't start on the next startup. It's a minor annoyance, but I've gotten into the habit of making sure the audio source is set to "FM" before I shut off the engine and this keeps the music player from starting up on it's own. There aren't any settings on the music player app I use (Fusion, which I like) that seem to affect this. If you have a different app that behaves differently, let us know. (Please don't suggest Google Play Music as I'm too old to appreciate Google's intensely and oppressively social app suite and just want to be left alone.)

Another thing to be aware of is that notification sounds play through the speakers if the source is set to "BT" (of course, as they come in on the media stream with the music, at least on Android). But, if I'm listening to "FM" and the source is other than "BT", then notifications aren't heard through the speakers although incoming phone calls work normally. (I get notifications for email and such on my phone. I could shut them off on the phone if I didn't want the music interrupted, but they don't bother me.)

I love technology. Good luck everyone.

FWIW I get notifications (email, text) on my phone but I keep my phone on silent...that way the notification sounds don't go through the speakers. I don't ever use bluetooth though. I pretty much plug my iPhone into the usb and control the music that way.

Turn media volume up and notification volume down on your phone. The other stuff you mentioned I don't really see to be an inconvenience. Mine functions exactly the same.

I don't get it, you don't want your phone connecting automatically? That's a good thing in my mind. It opens and closes on its own when connected. Why would you want to have to pull your phone out of your pocket and do it manually?

Either way poweramp on Android gives you all the settings you could need. I set it so I have to press play on the stereo manually after starting my truck
