In my opinion, the bucket seats are extremely uncomfortable. Long drives are torture. My drive time is going to be increasing soon and I am looking for seat replacements or solutions to add comfort to the stock seats. I have played around with adding spacers and that didn't help much. The discomfort stems from the "bucket" shape and lack of support/padding on the bottom. I also tried a cheap set of seat covers. They improved the comfort a little by flattening out the bucket shape. I didn't keep the covers because I felt the minimal gains would be lost after they broke in. Has anyone played around with adding a cushion underneath an aftermarket seat cover?

Could the bottom seat cushion be shot? Don't hear many complaints on the Taco seats, other than the angle occasionally. (easy fix)

I don't think they are shot. The truck has 145k miles and I got it at 50k. They have been uncomfortable the whole time with no noticeable decline. When you look under the seat there are a series of wire/spring supports with a very thin layer of actual cushion and material.

I think my back part is shot.
In the passenger cab rear where the little document pocket is, there’s this wire poking out almost like a coat hanger

    there’s a guy who retrofitted seats from a B8 S5

    when there’s a will there’s a way.

look into seat jacket spacers for the rear. Like 1” pucks. They make a world of difference in comfort of the stock seat. A lot cheaper and easier of a project then swapping to something differently entirely

some new car seats are ventilated (tiny fan almost like what’s in a desktop PC) under the cushion, heated, or even massaging
    That would be nice

seat upholstery work is really not that hard either. Good cutting dikes for removing hog rings that hold the cover on, and hog ring pliers to install new ones putting the cover back on
Like if adding a heating element

wiring is probably same shit as any other wiring job

Yes, but for the opposite reason you describe. I like a deep bucket. After adding seat covers and heaters, it basically leveled the cushion with the bolsters. The overall effect was leg fatigue from unconsciously trying to fight lateral acceleration (turning and such), leading to sore thighs.

So I took a cheap roll of 1/4" neoprene and lined the underside of my covers, but only on the bolsters. It was two rounds of trial and error and then a small break in period, but it's about as comfortable now as it's going to get.

If you want cushy and plush, line it with furniture foam. If you want to reinforce the "bucket," neoprene is the winning ticket, I found.

So is the (easy fix) just purchasing a replacement seat cover and installing? On my drivers side lumbar area where I slide in and out it is getting tattered.

I was speaking of the seat angle itself.
