After driving VW busses for 47 years , finally decided to have a little more time not working on my ride . Picked up a 2010 Tacoma in excellent condition . Bare bones , lots of manual stuff, just as I wanted and also a single cab. One drawback is the bench seat for three little people .
Want to put in buckets seats . I assume it's possible and does any body have any suggestions or comment s . Are there airbag issues involved ?
    Thanks, Tacman 31

If you find a 4runner as far back as the 2004 generation, you can use the wiring in you seats to wire the new ones.the squibs will plug right in and you have to transfer the rest. They are much better seats. Junkyards and close watching is your best bet. I had to drive 4 hours for mine. Seat rails are exact match, all you have to do is expose the holes filled with plastic plugs in your truck

It's been done, but appears rather difficult with hole alignments, seat belts, and air bag / seat sensors.

Once you have both seats out next to each other it's rather easy to see how they work. The holes line up perfectly, and wiring is a breeze. Air bag sensors, the squibs the yellow connectors, just plug and play. The other wires just need to be transfered. The connecting portion of the two sides of the bench seat can be tucked below the carpet. At a junk yard they are 50$ total, so if you can't do it once you have them, it's not a huge loss.

    Thanks Gang,
After reading the links from tomwill, It sounds as if with the reclining buckets seats , you lose legroom in the front and I'm a little leery . After having all the room I wanted in the old microbus , I'm learning how to squeeze myself in and still be comfortable .
I bought the truck used from Carmax . In excellent condition at good price , but one thing I wished I had was a manual trans . Embarrasing , but I still find my right hand moving to the shifter in traffic . Not having pulled out the bench to see the supports , is there any thing there to prevent me from just leaving a gap between the two seats and not changing the console .
Sorry if I sound kinda naĂŻve about this whole deal . I could disassemble a volks in the dark and this is a whole new experience. My wife had a Sienna for 15 years and being pretty intelligent , I was never allowed to work on it , except for fixing flat tires.
    Thnks, tacman 31

In that department, there is not muchyou can do.if you do go with buckets it is harder to put stuff behind he seats from the outside, but if you can find any other model of Tacoma you can steal that console. I left no console so I can put my backpack, but idk about what would fit in that department. The passenger side won't be able to scoot as far forward with fitment issues. It's very easy to mod other seats to work, but there are drawbacks to be sure. I think it's worth the drawbacks, but it's now for everyone, especially if you occasionally carry three people

    Thanks LoveableWerewolf,
Given some of the issues involved with switching over , I'm probably going to sit on it for a while as I get more familiar with the car . I guess the first thing to do is get a good service manual (any recommendations ?) and start tinkering where it's pretty easy. Also , my wife is pretty insistent that since I now have air bags , that I not do anything to disturb that . I don't know how I lived to be 66 !
