    Hi,
I already have my lower receiver and lower parts kit ordered.

    Looking at this:
    http://www.midstatefirearms.com/MSF...e-AR15-Upper-w-BCG-Charging-Handle-16blem.htm

Love it and really want to buy it, but concerned about a front sight.

What I really want is a red dot / front iron sight combo.

I can't put the typical front iron sight on this barrel can I?

10" rail is pretty short (too short to add a flip up at the end?). Should I just spend the money to get an extended rail?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

Yeah, a front sight mounted on that short rail would be worthless. The rail would be sufficient for a red dot only setup

All of my guns have back up iron sights (BUIS). I run a number of SBRs (short barrel rifles) with total barrel lengths of 10.5" and 9" and the rails are even shorter. I don't trust electronics, and even my aimpoint T-1 has taken a shit on me after a few rounds down range. Having the ability to use iron sights on any platform is essential. If you are looking for inexpensive options consider the magpul MBUS, or MBUS PRO if you are looking to spend a little more.

TLDR: I would get a set, and sight them in for contingency.

How do you figure? There are guns with much shorter sight radiuses than that. Heck, the standard M4 carbine has a similar sight radius and that's a sub-moa capable rifle.

You're fine with a flip up front sight on that 10" rail. It's still over the gas block on a carbine length gas system, which means it's right where an A2 front sight base+post would be on a standard M4 carbine.

Why can't you put a normal ironsight on the barrel?
I've seen plenty with front irons and rear flip up. Iirc you just have to get a front iron sight with the F stamp to work with mil spec rear on a flat top upper.

I agree with several others here. I have MBUS on my 10.5" pistol and am quite accurate with them. You can always save up get a longer hand-guard to improve sight radius but imo it isn't necessary. Post up pics of your gun once you get it all together.

Also OP, every rifle I own has 4 things:
    1) Red dot sight or optic
    2) BUIS
    3) Weapon mounted light
    4) 2 point sling

A weapon mounted light is vital if you plan to use this weapon at night or in a SHTF situation. Docloco's SBR features an INFORCE WML. Great option! I also run a similar light: haley strategic WML on a thorntail offset mount
    http://haleystrategic.com/wml/

    Budget options include:
    Surefire G2X tactical
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1C9B4VST60CQGZE0H907
    VLTOR Offset light mount
    http://www.amazon.com/Vltor-SM-OCG-...1-1-catcorr&keywords=vltor+offset+light+mount

I have and run both setups.

Im a fan of running BUIS. I love the Magpul Pro sights. I run their offset pro on my main AR platform. Only because I run a 1-4x powered optic. Even tho my optic has a etched reticle in case the battery dies...I still run BUIS only because I keep my 1-4x at 4x and like to transition between offset BUIS to 4x depending on what I am shooting.

I was one of the very first buyers of the Vltor Scout Offset mount. Loved it, but it kept coming loose. I switched to Gear Sector's version - it rocks.

Unlike this example - I have mine mounted on the other side at 10 o'clock.
