Budget Seat Heaters and Leather Seat covers

Here's my DIY seat heater and upholstery facelift.



I bought these pads to throw under my seat covers, and they work great. They heat up quickly and are very warm. The seat heaters were simple to install and come with their own fuzes, but for those of you inexperienced with electrical work and battery terminals there's a video online here.

These seat covers fit great and are very durable. They don't offer much padding, but my seats are in excellent condition. The only downside is you'll need to cut a small hole in the top of the cover to allow access to your rear seat pull-string to poke through otherwise, you cannot fold your seats down for luggage.

@Budbudbuilds how hot do these get for you? I am bench testing the same kit and they barely get hot

How well do the heated seat pads work through the covers? Having several Subarus over the years, I kind of miss heated cloth seats. I've used the typical heated black seat pads, but as expected tend not to stay in place. And, they wouldn't look great with my beige interior. If I could find beige seat covers with a decent heating pad underneath, I may consider them.

The white heated pads shown here look thinner than the typical on-seat heated pad, but maybe they're still effective and better overall.

I think for the money they get very hot, The sticky adhesive works very well so they won’t be sliding around.

Yes they are thin and I also was skeptical but because of this i’m unable to feel them even on long drives.

From my experience with other heated car seats I couldn’t tell the difference. My seat covers are probably a quarter inch of fabric really not much padding. I can feel them through and through no problem.

They’re hot enough that even on a 30° day after 5-10 minutes on high I have turn them down if not off completely.

Definitely nothing fancy but if you want something with quality for a cheap price this did wonders for my truck. It had fuses and pre wired relays included and more than enough wire.

I realized my butt is more sensitive than my hands lol

I went ahead and installed them under my katzkin. Still need to wire it up!

 

Interesting - definitely sounds like a few steps up from those pads that just place on top of the seats.
