My Tacoma is currently on stock suspension, wheels, and tires. I want something that doesn't break the bank but will allow me to get 33s and use my truck like a truck when I need to.

I've heard a lot about the Bilstein 5100s, but I am hoping to hear further opinions.

My budget is around $2,500 for suspension alone, labor included.

    Let me know your thoughts!

I hate how often people have to say this on this forum so i will type it up this time.
You will still rub when your suspension compresses even if you have a lift if you run 33 inch tires. You will need to hammer back the pinch weld and possibly chop in the cab mounts back.

Only skinny 33s (255/85/16) fit with no modifications. 285’s will require cutting even with a lift unless it is a pavement princess.

Congratulations 2nd post and already went to the hurt feelings:humble:what I think boston23 was alluding to was that the search button is your friend. This topic has been :deadhorse: over the years. My advice to you as someone who only runs 265/75/16 with an aggressive AT tire is be prepared to get even shittier gas mileage. Good luck

    2 things:

My favorite budget lift is the Old Man Emu lift. All new coils and struts, whereas the Bilsteins use your existing coils. You can get more lift out of the OME if you pick the right coils and leaf pack load duty as well. Cost is about the same.

As stated, lift won’t solve your tire size issue. You will likely need a Body Mount Chop, hammered pinch welds, realignment, etc to get 33s on. It’s doable though. I’m running them right now. But I had to do all of the above. Also pay attention to offset, which is a huge factor as well if you are changing wheels.

I have the Bilstein 6112 up front, 5160 and heavy duty leaf in back. More needed as mentioned!
    I have CMC, wheel spacers,
I cut, hammered, viper cut and still occasionally rub, running 285/70/17

Rough Country makes a nice suspension kit. Quality has improved with a nice price point. :benchpress:

Start simple without a lift and put on 255/85/16s (or 255/80/17s depending on stock wheel size) and go from there. The truck will sit 1.5” higher than stock with just the tires and you’ll have a lot more money in your pocket. A lift does nothing to fit the tires.

    You can fit 33s
Do you want new UCAs? This may help in the long run
How much lift are you wanting on your new suspension? Tat tire size gives you lift
A good to great alignment may get you off roading without a new suspension and adding 33s
    It’s almost Friday
Need more real info on your intentions wants needs and dreams for this thread to not deteriorate
    Eibach for your price range

Many of us religiously run 33s
With a proper alignment many of us did nothing more
With that said these trucks are fickle and different and experiences may vary
33s is a great place to start

No hurt feelings, just doing my duty

For $2500 i would say fox 2.0 set up with old man emu leaf springs (dakar mediums) and you will be happy. The beefier bilstein are also good

    Also welcome to TW

For my 3rd gen, I did the pinch weld pounding, and got a cab mount chop before I ever put on my 305 width 33s. Front wheels at negative 19 offset only by trimming back both the front bottom fender and bumper bottom plastic as well as the rear fender bottom metal. Reformed fender liner put back in.
No rub anywhere ever but only by max effort to open the hole so to speak.
Offset and tire width on 3rd gen are gigantic factors. The thinner the tire on the most positive offset wheel where the tire can clear the upper control arm, are the easiest to get to fit without rub or cutting.

Thank you all for the feedback. I’ve taken all this into consideration and have a much better idea of what I’m doing.

I coincidentally got a flat on my rear passenger yesterday. The tire is toast, so I think it’s time to actually go throw with the new set.

    Thanks guys!

I'm not aware of any lift kit that includes required items to fit 33" on 3rd gen properly.
