What kind of machine did you use?

I haven't used it but I have heard of Dr ColorChip being used with good results for touch up jobs.

Your past the clear coat and the base coat. I'm afraid that's a little more in depth of a repair. Sorry bout your luck.

I never use a power tool with scratch x. Best bet is a touch up pen. Find your paint code or depending on where it’s at slap a decal over it
    lol.

What @Moonrman said. Your only cheap option is to get a touchup kit (or a rattle can job) preferably one with primer since you're down to metal in the spot (that ot a decal like suggested lol). The process will be involved to do it right. To get it to blend you'd need to do some wet sanding in between applications, including progressive grits until you can cut and polish. I'd honestly look into a pro mobile repair, or do a lot of research before proceeding any further. Drill pad attachments aren't great for those taking a first stab at correction or detailing. Hand first, or Dual Action random orbitals are your safest bet.

FWIW if the scratch below your burned through spot in the pic is the one you're trying to get out, that won't buff out. At best it'd also require wet sanding. Though it may also require touchup, hard to tell not being in person. But it's through the clear to an extent just from that pic.

If you have never done auto coatings or finishes, than you would be better off to take it to a seasoned autobody person. Because To make it better you have to make it worse then be able to bring it back to a good finish. Shop tools alone make the process usually not doable for the diy-er. If you proceed to accomplish this than awesome, but you will probably tell yourself down the road "what a hassle I should have put a sticker on it". Unless it's a pristine specimen.

Touch up paint … lots of layers of paint and then a few coats of clear to seal it in it won’t look pretty but at least it won’t rust .

+1 to the process, but from the picture, it looks like it's got metal flake in it. metal flake cannot be easily touched up, ever. typical painter process is to spray the effected area and blend into the surrounding area. anything less, and the repair is more visible.

i really think the best process here is to seek professional body and paint repair. it won't be as cheap as that quick DIY kit, but few lessons are.

I have that same Scratch X and I believe you're suppose to use it by hand. Sorry to see but you're past the paint of no return for a DIY project. The cheapest route is to spray a primer base, then 2-3 coat of paint, then 2 coats of clear and then a west sand. I only recommend this if it's in an area that's not too noticeable or if you have no real funds. Check around for a reputable spot to get it done right and will blend it as best as possible.

I'd have to look but I think I have that stuff and have used with a machine. I'm curious what the OP used to apply it.

A drill..ouch. That's the problem. I've used that same compound with a DA and had zero issues.

OP, spend the money for a DA polisher going forward and you'll be in good shape.

Using a drill is a for sure way to burn through a paint job. Dr. Color chip is a great kit however given the size of the damage it will still be fairly visible. Just have your expectations in check and understand that it won’t look perfect and you should be fine. If you ever want to polish off a defect or small scratch use a DA polishing machine. It’s extra orbit stops the machine from burning paint up
