Had a small oopsie and have backed into (lightly bumped) a cement wall of a parking deck. My black plastic back bumper took on some scratches where it hit the wall. Most of the cement washed out, but some stayed in the plastic where the scratches were a bit deeper. I thought I could take some fine sand paper and buff it out, but where I sanded, I think I melted (or changed) the plastic a bit. Where I ran the sand paper, the bumper is showing some gray. It isn't that noticeable, but it is to me.

Is there a way to buff that out without doing further damage to the plastic? Is there a plastic bumper filler or stain that will cover imperfections?

    Just spitballing here......

    Thanks.

I’m in a low light situation right now, so if you can’t see this, I will try to take a pic out in the sunlight a little bit later. It is on the left edge (White smear) of the bumper and also on the top.

    thanks.

Yep, that black plastic will turn white when sanded or bent. I had scratches on my inside door panels which are the same type of plastic. I was able to hide most of them with a heat gun. You just have to heat it very slowly and it will change back to black. It wont completely fix it but hides it fairly well. Just go slow and be careful not to get it too hot. If someone has a good hair dryer you can try that.

I'm a few professional detailing forums, and can tell you that using heat on the plastic will most likely cause some damage to the plastic in the long run. I'd recommend using Solution Finish on the plastic to restore the natural black finish.

Cool. Thanks. I looked that stuff up and watched a few videos. I will try it when it arrives via USPS.

I would also recommend a heat gun. Your only doing it once.

I did the heat gun method on my Frontier. I do not recommend it. In the long run it makes the plastic look worse.
