We had me on our 2nd gen that did a good job but due to the design differences on the 3rd gen it looked to me like they provided less protection than it did on our 2009. Went with a clear bra instead.

They can ruin the paint on the front of the hood, which is reason enough to not have one. Also, it looks like your truck would have a mustache in a Cars movie.

After a chipped windshield from a road pebble I added a bug shield to my Tacoma and my wife’s 4Runner. I went with the Weathertech bolt on. Comes with fasteners and no drilling, uses existing holes. I’m not fond of the 3M stick on jobs.

    Nice!

I just recently installed AVS Bugdeflector 2, looks like will be good protection for hood and the windshield.

My deflector has helped me too never having replaced a broken windshield on any of my trucks.

I’m really thinking about getting one of these. The love bugs are out in Florida and just pounding my truck, especially the windshield. I like the idea of it deflecting small rocks too. My only concern is the paint on the hood getting messed up by the deflector. Is there any way to prevent that? What’s better, the Weathertech orAVS?

My bug deflector doesn’t stop bugs but stops paint chips from small rocks on my hood and sends them right to the windshield glass.

My Bugdeflector 2 definitely helps with the bottom half of the windshield. Does nothing for the top half, full of bugs in the summer. Still, I’m glad I have it.

Had Bugdeflector 2 on my previous truck and had zero rock chips in 7 years of ownership, was great.

Also noticed that when I drove in the windy desert the deflector directs all the airborne sand higher.

I have the Weathertech and am happy with it. Doesn't touch the hood that I can see so far, and I think it looks decent on the truck
