No way, and over time it can do this to your hood. This had vinyl in between the bracket and the hood to protect it, but it still rubbed through to the paint. This came off an 05 and I'm not sure when the PO put it on.

I probably wont be putting one on my truck. It makes the quicksand model look like it has a unibrow.

I have one to save my hood and windshield from all the lava rock they put on the roads in the winter. Up to nickle size. Stay way back from cars in front of me throwing it up. Serves my purpose so yes.

The rocks they put down in the winter are everywhere in my area. My truck is 9 months old and has only been through one winter and I already got a couple decent sized chips on my hood that I had to cover up with MGM touch up paint and clear coat.

OP, I say keep it on there if you want to protect your windshield and hood from rock chips especially on the highway. OP, I noticed you are a girl. I love to see female Tacoma owners who are enthusiastic about their trucks. All the girls in my town drive Jeep wranglers and I have only seen one female Tacoma owner in my town. We need more female taco owners like you.

Guys I don't know if you know this, but the purpose of this bug deflector is to redirect the air up and over the cab, taking the bugs with it. This does nothing to protect the hood or windshield from rocks.

Sorry but I will have to disagree. It may not help the windshield but it will help direct smaller rocks over the hood since it sits higher. Just my opinion.

I can definitely see that happening. I just see the deflector as such a small area, the results are pretty low. Guess I could have worded my post better.

I have another truck without one and the entire front of the hood is almost to primer all the way across. I have clear bra on the rest of the front of the tacoma, mirrors and behind the wheels...wish they didn't use rock up here...lol

Yay. I'd just get one that doesn't mount to the surface of the hood, mine mounts underneath the hood and doesn't touch the exterior of it.

Sure it does, it provides a direct berrier in front of the leading edge of your hood which recieves the brunt of the flying debris. The redirection of air works somewhat for the bugs, however for rocks it deflects them up and over your windshield if they hit it usually. I've had them on different vehicles that attached different ways even the ones with the pedestal mounts. Yes some of them will screw up your paint where they are mounted depending on how they're mounted. The one on my truck does not touch the hood and there is only a tiny amount of protective film on the very edge of the hood between it and the deflector. If you like it Jenn roll with it. I don't personally care for the looks of them but retain them for the purpose they serve.
