Imho yes. I put them on my vehicles and they seem to let the bugs flow over the hood and most of the windshield if not all

Not really. I have the AVS Areoskin II Hood Protector and bugs still hit the windshield. They don't make the straight up and down ones that were about 6 inches tall anymore. I had them on past truck back in the 80's and early 90's. I thought they were neat to have my CB handle professionally painted on the front of them also. :)

Today's are for hood protection so the front edge of your hood don't get rock chipped and for looks. They may deflect a bug or 2 under the right conditions. I have hauled off feral cats the last 3 nights and my windshield has bugs on it.

I have the same one installed, and I've noticed way less rocks smashing my windshield on the interstate.

Looks-wise, it’s like low profile tires or underglow on a truck.....to each their own I guess.
The only reason I have one is because my last truck had over 500,000kms and the front of the hood was shredded from stone chips. The one I got for my Tacoma was about $40 from AutoZone and I barely notice it on my black truck. It screwed up into factory drilled holes on the underside of the hood too.

I do like the bug deflecters for its purpose and perhaps looks as well. I had a 05 4Runner with one and it did protect the hood from road debris etc. However, I don’t have one on my Taco, as of yet!

    Bug deflector FTW

Love the look and love the function on my truck.

This is the Toyota "factory" one, even has the logo on it. Not sure who really made it though, seems to be working fine. I get more bugs on my Dodge 1500 work truck than I do in the Taco, but can't scientifically say it because of the deflector.

i believe this is the one i got. should be here tomorrow and will install then. did you use the 4 rubber clear bumpstops behind the shield on the hood? reason i ask is because my truck came with the toyota clear bra thing. not 100% sure if those will stick onto that plastic film or if it's a good idea to do it.

They will stick, but I didn't use mine. It won't make contact with the hood.

How does the factory one install? Just tape, or are there screws involved?

awesome! i was hoping for the just about touchless experience. my xterra has these two little brackets, one on each corner, that attaches to hood but it came with some sort of clear protective film so as to not mark the paint up there. sound slike this one for the taco won't even touch like that. cool. thanks.

Plastic clips into pre cut square holes and screws into the square clips.

It mounts to factory screw holes under the lip of the hood, the screws on the top hold to the bumpers on the underside of the deflector that are 3M taped to the hood.

FYI. I stuck mine on the inside of the bug shield instead of on my hood. The shield has lots of clearance anyway so i doubt it will ever contact the hood.

If you like Rain-x, you won't like a deflector. I personally hated the one I had in the snow because it seemed to divert snow directly onto where the windshield wipers sit.
