I've seen those bug shields cause more damage to the paint job after a couple years rather then goodfrom buildup that falls behind them. I went to take one off a 96 and there were rust spots hiding under it from wear it caused on the paint. Go with the clear protectant shield

I like it. Works good. Looks good too on the black tacos. I will say it looks odd on some of the other colored trucks. You can see how well it's working when driving in snow. Keeps most everything off the windshield, barely need to use wipers.

I have a few good dings in my hood deflector. I'm glad that it hit that, rather than my hood or glass.
As long as you're not getting a chrome or Realtree deflector, I recommend using one.

Why does the world think that everyone wants SMOKE? Would much prefer black & no - don't want to Derp it.

Anyone know of a mfg that makes one in black and that won't rub the pain in any way? EGR and AVS are Smoke

I have an EGR one on my truck and I like it, but most of the time I don't like others because, like the OEM one, it sticks up off of the hood or other things that don't make it look good.

If you don't want to drop $800 on the clear 3M bra then a $60 protection is worth considering. I know the old and probably new OEM hood protectors will eff your hood up, but not the AVS ones. I recently installed the AVS shield and there is zero contact with the hood, nor do I see gale force winds pushing it down to my hood. The kit actually comes with some 3M material to make sure you're hood is protected.

Well, I just bought an avs bugshield II, I'll put some pics up when I get it and get it installed. I know there are as many "don't do it" as there are "do it" but from my experience here in MA the bugshields work. My wife had a crv without one and the front after a year was peppered with chips. She currently has another crv with the weathertech shield and it has made a large difference in the number of bug splatters and also no chips. You can tell me all day long "my friend has one...." but if you haven't had the same car with and without a shield you can't really say anything other than liking the look or not.

Up to the individual. Got both. Bug Deflector doesn't touch the outer hood. Wind Visors are very functional for me.

I got my avs bd 2 today and installed. I like the look but am a little dissapointed in the installation. The screws don't actually screw in, they went in with just finger pressure and it didn't seem very sturdy but once the hood is closed it all seems pretty tight.

The only physical contact is the front bottom of the hood where the plastic wraps up around, I wonder if that's going to wear and if I should put some type of tape or something along that leading edge? This weekend I might take the weathertech one off my wife's crv and check, it's been on for 3 years and this avs seems to be the same basic design. I'll post back once I've done that and let y'all know if there's any damage.

Anyhow, here's before and afterimage ( I get my window vents Friday):

If it all super flush then what's the point? It isn't blocking anything from hitting the windshield. And clear vinyl thingies are same thing, no windshield protection. No rock chips but the windshield needs fixing or replacing...yep, that's effective. Put a piece of tape under the hood mounting points on the oem and there are no paint issues from protector or driving and it actually helps protect the windshield too.

I had one on my 2007, I had a local paint shop paint it Indigo to match the truck it looked good. I have a smoked one on my 2011 MGM but it looks good with the MGM color.

We have a lot of salt & cinders on our roads for 6 months a year, they really save the hood. The trick to prvent chips around the clips is get a old inner tube and line the clips, it will protect the hood.

Not my thing..but the avs aero skin is kinda cool...I think it would look good on certain color trucks...
