Aesthetically, I hate most of them. I don't like how they look. But they do some good- fewer chips to the front of the hood, and anything that hits will be higher on the windshield- at least it's a smaller area of glass for rocks and bugs to slide up and hit.
Around here, you need one. We're close to the water, so the salt on the roads is killer. And there's a lot of big work trucks around that love to throw rocks, too. So around here, you'd actually want to keep it.

I just go with the full vinyl bra for $100-180 bucks. The full clear bra works fine for gravel chips, but the cost is too much for me. I actually like the look of the vinyl bra, plus it comes with a bug screen for the radiator openings. I'm not a big fan of bugs clogging up my radiator. Some places in the world don't have a lot of bugs in the summer, but try driving through Eastern Colorado and Kansas, good lord they pile up like crazy.

I had one on a Silverado, Tundra and now my Tacoma. I like them. All a personal preference.

Looked good on my 95.5 Tacoma. My 2nd generation 2010 looks better without. Looks cleaner without to me.....

Got it out of an FS thread here for 25.00 shipped with all the clips and mounting stuff, the oem one. They show up there from time to time. Maybe throw out a WTB thread.

Just my 2 cents worth...I have had both, the OEM & aftermarket AVS. The OEM is poor design & the metal clips used to hold the OEM one on to your hood actually damaged the paint on my '08. Got an '11 now & went with AVS. Uses the pre-drilled holes under the hold & no worries about metal scuffing up my paint.

It does it's job well and there will be no clip damage. I used strips of bike tube under each one. No touchy the hood and much sturdier than the one on my 05

i wish i had pictures of my 15 year old mustangs hood ; little chips add up to looking like shit. plus it offers some protection to yur windshield. diffrent colors too. got mine black over charcoal grey paint 80 $ at autozone. its no diffrent than using seat covers. good protection.

GO WITH AVS - AUTO VENT SHADE NAME BRAND. This is by far the best protection yet.

It is a screw on. It has predrilled holes that line up with the pre existing holes underneath your hood. Google AVS bug deflector and you will see this item Im talking about.
