That was the GM plant in Fremont, Calif before Toyota took over 50% of it to form NUMMI. :p Toyota's transformation of the plant was a much-studied case for manufacturing quality. My truck was assembled in Fremont by UAW unionized workers and it has been problem-free.

Buy an Access Cab. :p Note Baja makes all the beds for both assembly plants.

Some of the workers at the Baja plant are more experienced. The Texas plant only started in 2011, and there was a learning curve. For example, there were door latch fitment issues with some 2011 trucks.

This. Unless yours was built in the Tahara plant, I seriously doubt it matters.

If they make $8 an hour.
The average monthly salary in Tijuana is $480-960 after taxes. (US)
At $8 an hour they are making $1280 a month. That's not including over time.
They are working 2 hours a day and mandatory Saturdays trying to keep up with demand.
So, 8 bucks an hour doesn't look like much to us but that's a lot to them.

what about those being built on a friday?

and $8/hr in mexico is relatively good when you take into account the cost of living. especially if that $8 figure is in today's curreny rate (the dollar is pretty strong ~16.50 pesos to a dollar). i have many family members who are mexican, and have dicusssed the differences in pay between our countries. considering many mexicans migrate to the US for a $10/hr job, $8/hr in their home country is a good deal since they can stay close to family.

I currently own a Ram 1500 that I'll be trading in on my 16 taco. Ram has two plants, one in the US and one in Mexico. It has been proven time and time again the trucks that come out of Mexico have better build quality vs their US made counterparts. I will have no issue with a Mexican made truck. Hell, Mexico is our favorite country to vacation in as well and from the few times we have been there, I've noticed their work ethic is way higher than most Americans. They really take pride when they land a great job

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
NUMMI had turned out one of the best quality vehicles in US. Since Toyota closed NUMMI quality is not the same...
At this point if anybody is buying Toyota not manufactured in Japan its his/hers own undoing.
To those that say quality is the same...
Toytoa had recall on 3gen truck in first month of production. That is on par wit GM. Now which plant build those vehicles that needs to be recalled ?
If you guessed Baja than you guessed right :D

It's not a matter of how hard Mexicans work vs Americans. It's a matter of Mexico having lower standards. I'm not saying this is the case here, it might just be a coincidence. I'm sure Toyota has set the same standards there, and their facility are just as good as ours.

The only cars built in Japan and sold in the U.S. Is a handful of models and ONLY as part of bridging manufacturing gaps because it's less profitable to import them. In fact this process is being phased out entirely. If you want a Japanese built Toyota you need to rule out 90% of every Toyota in the U.S.

I also heard that iron and carbon sourced in America is stronger/better than iron and carbon sourced from Germany and Japan... Did you know that the chemical composition for these very same raw materials are actually different?!

Sorry felt like being a troll.

I believe everyone is a bit paranoid about where the Tacoma is assembled...
At the end of the day it doesn't matter... if you think you know otherwise, you're wrong.
It's an opinion or cultural bias that isn't based on any substantial statistics of fact (recalls due to manufacturing, not design, defects)
Get over yourself people and just enjoy the damn truck if you're lucky enough to own one.
