ive been planning an AR build and just realized with roughly the same amount of money I can get a winch and rear off-road bumper to match the front I already have....

The winch and rear bumper are pretty much the last two big ticket items I want for the truck, but at the same time I've never had an AR...

    What to do?

Get the AR now since prices are at lowest point.

Which would you get more use out of? Your posting this question on a Tacoma site where doing mods is like a crack addition so your answers are likely to be skewed. I love shooting my AR, but it is probably the gun I shoot the least due to practicality.

IIWM, I would get the bumper and winch. You can piece together an AR over time. Not so much a bumper.

Ha well realistically I'd shoot the AR far more often than I'd use the winch... At least I hope that's the case lol

What would you use more? rear bumper will make the truck safer on and off road, and a winch could be very helpful in a bad situation.

I could squeeze the bumper AND AR but I don't want to piece together a cheap bare bones AR.. I'm not going to get into building multiple ars for fun I want a keep forever kind of rifle

Oh yeah? You're relatively new to firearms, aren't you? In case you didn't know over the next 11mos both components and complete rifles will become nearly impossible to find/buy and as a result the prices will skyrocket and this will maintain for at least a year afterwards. I don't see a winch & bumper doing that. If you even THINK you may want rifle now is the time. Trust me. You'll be thanking me in a year.

Pro tip: If you have enough to do both buy TWO rifles and sell the 2nd one in about a year to a year and a half. With the profit you'll pay for a bumper and winch easily.

    Key word being "some". lol

If you're excited about both, getting the bumper and maybe the lower, LPK, rail and/or barrel would be a good start.

    Definitely not "new".

The Chicken Little gun scares have been going on for quite some time. I live in CA.

This, buy the bumper you want and some of the parts while prices are low then save up some more and finish building the ar the way you want it.

You don't need an AR15, just buy a double barrel shotgun.

I think the best advice above is the bumper and a good lower for the AR. You could snap up an inexpensive upper to shoot up while you build out the keeper upper. Advantage of getting the lower is being done with the paper for the gun. You can flip uppers all day long. The winch can wait if you wheel with a frined with a winch or don't spend that much time off road.
