werd hit me up whenever. I think the mount on these is in the 4-5" range. Like I said though the box its in is maybe .5 cubic feet so its a great little sub. And I agree they did suck for quite a while but either they got new management or got their heads out of their asses becase they have gotten a hell of lot better.

I would take a Type-R over anything Polk makes any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

You kids have clung to Alpine type-R's like fly on shit since Y2k. Polks cheaper, isn a shallow mount so the excersion is way mo betta, takes less power, and in comparing sound clarity. That's like comparing apples to apples, they both sound like shit compared to everything else out of their league.

    1. I'm not a kid, I'm in my 30's and older than you. :)

    2. I've never been an Alpine Fan boy. This would be the first Alpine sub I've owned. Alpine never made subs that meet my SPL needs. I've been a DD, Orion HCCA, Sun Down fan for years. I've moved away from SPL and am going SQ route this time. I've had some Alpine Type_R component sets in my Ingtegra, very good speakers as well but wasn't nearly as clear as my Focal's I run now. Anyone I've ever heard with full Type-R or Type-X systems all sound really damn good for the price they paid. I can't find anyone who has a full Polk system to hear the difference with.

    3. With the double cab and keeping the ability to have the seats fold a 4-5 inch depth will not fit. 4inch depth is pushing the limits in a double cab. The Polk SVC 12 is over 6 inches mounting, this is about the same as a full size Type-R so these subs are not in the same class at all and the Polk 12 wouldn't fit behind the seats and allow them to fold.

The 2 subs that I looked at were the JL 13 shallow and the Type-R 12 shallow. The price on the JL I could find was well over $500. The Alpine I got for $180, which I consider $180 cheap for a sub. I've heard the JL13 vs. the Alpine 12 in correct boxes, and yes the JL sounded better, but not $300 better. The Alpine I heard was in a sealed 1.20ft box and it hit almost as hard as the full size Alpine's do. My box is KILLING my output being that its only .60ft so I'm in the process of building a new box. I used some Polyfill and that made a big difference. By my math by adding the polyfill I'm pushing around .80-.90ft of space. When I spoke to an engineer at Alpine he said 1.20 is the magic number for this sub sealed.

    Three years.....:p

And the comment was more directed at the Texas guy. That shallow mount really wants 1.20. Holy hell thats alot for such a tiny sub. And you can only do 4" max. Let me do some googling real quick.

    Ahhhh found it....

    http://shop.*********.com/Tacoma-Subwoofer-Enclosure-10-Round-DCT-TACO-SUB10-1U.htm

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/bu...e-cab-image-dynamics-id10v3-sub-like-new.html

Max depth @ 5.5 with this design.

Now I saw that you were thinking of going dual subs, that is why I suggest the POlK SVC 10". Those are only 5 7/16" deep and with a box designed around the ********* style of box you should be perfect at .55 cubic feet. Now you can always poly fill them to get some more clarity out of them as well. Plus they only need 300ish to be within RMS range.

All in all I have never been a fan of shallow mounts, they just dont sound nearly as good as a regular design.

My old install in my chevy was older polk which sounded quite well but I rely most of that on the memphis amps and bi mono switching that they offer over the stock polk crossovers and the JLW7 12 I had notched in the rear bench.

NOw however its focal threeways in the taco with the same amps but a much smaller and incompetent sub. However, I am thoroughly impressed thus far with its ability.

Image Dymanics went out of business which is why I didn't buy their sub.

Still the SVC 10 is 5 7/16 where the Type R 12 is 3.5. Gives me a lot of room to work with. I've been debating of doing 2 subs but think I'll stick to one for now. The next meet I will have to hear your sub and see how it sounds.

And Alpine Spec sheets says .60ft is 'optimal'. The engineer said 'It's more for sales and it is fine, but if you want the best bang for your buck go 1.20 or 1.00 with polyfill'.

You'll be impressed with the Alpine when you hear it. You'll be more impressed with the Focal's though, they produce more bass then the entire JBL package that came with the truck. I'll never not run Focals again and am looking at getting these ( http://www.amazon.com/Focal-Power-6-5-Inch-Component-Speaker/dp/B001Q9EKZU/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1340906209&sr=8-9&keywords=focal+component+speakers )for the front and putting my 30th Anniversary in the rears. That way I can make some kick panels and really get some good sound.

How do you like those 3-ways and what model are they?

And my bad, I thought you were referring to the ID subs. :)

LOL no worries, I love them. They are the polyglass 3ways. Picked them up from ultimate when they were going out of business for 350. Here's a link on the specs.
    http://www.abt.com/product/48146/Focal-165VR3.html

I have my small memphis 4 channel running the mid/basses and my larger memphis 4 channel running the mids and highs with the crossover on the tweets. lots of control this way. Plus the Eclipse AV unit that I picked up right before they went under is legit minus the craptastic map disk

First, I'm almost 40. Hardly a "young kid". Second, I've been doing car audio since 1989 and while I was still in retail my shop specialized in high end work. Like IASCA-winning, hell IASCA-FOUNDING type work. I have a fair idea what I'm talking about. Polk isn't bad but right now Alpine is making some damned fine subs and subs have NEVER been Polk's strong suit. ID was great until Eric was forced out. If I could convince Demetrios to make a shallow Black 12 I'd run an Arc sub again. If I could find an original Illusion 12 or 15 I'd run that. Great subs that will fit in a Tacoma, or in my case, a Tundra, are hard to find. I'll probably run dual 13TW5v2s or possibly the 12TW3s because Manville always hooks me up, but I'd have NO problems running a Type-R. It's a great sub.

Got rid of the 2nd Gen intake for a 1st Gen intake yesterday.

1st gen is a lot louder, but I do not feel the same response as I did with the 2nd Gen.

Here are some pic's of the 2 side by side.

Also re-painted my logo's last night with a gray metallic finish. A friend's GF got a new Scion TC that has grey metallic wheels on a white car, loved the way it looked. Badges came out real nice and look pretty good in the sun light.

Yeah man, I REALLY liked the wheels on your girls car with the white, so I re-did my badges.

I'm going to plasti-derp the rear bumper and I'm painting the front grill black since it faded so bad.

I may need your help with getting the toyota logo off the steering wheel. I know I'll break the shit out if it if I try :)

I bought some white paint to do the trim on the gauges as well. So once all that's painted I've pretty much removed the silver/chrome off the entire truck

Well I painted the grill white, but it faded to a creme color.. Don't want to paint again so was going to just do black really fast. If I just use spray can white it won't be the same white as my truck and that will drive me up a wall.

As for the bumper its a temp solution until I can find someone to paint it for cheap, or get another one.

In the end, I want it all to color match.

Id say to not even waste time painting them if your just gonna color match them later. Just wait till you find a place. I'm still looking for one myself. gonna look for some places this weekend actually.

I like that but dont let some douche cop catch that at a meet.... on top of the fact that I bet that aluminum keeps that air nice and cool

Not worried about cops, it's a replica sign I got years and years ago. It seems to work pretty good. The crack on the plexi top I had was so loud at WOT, this quieted it down a bit.
