Damn looks like the top end starved for oil from the dirt/sludge, maybe from the bottom end failure.

I don't think you can machine the heads for a new cam, unless a machine shop is willing to make a special bearing. The cam rides in a machined aluminum hole.

Rod bearing failure on #6 piston causing oiling problem in head….. lack of oil transfer after bearing failure Causing camshaft damage….. That’s what’s been summarized thus far.

as far as the build, Short block is being replaced, Magnuson Supercharger being added, Heads going out to be rebuilt and have the internals reworked, ported, & polished with Lexus titanium intake & exhaust valves.
    RIPP Coil packs also purchased.
Adding high flow Mishimoto radiator…… And anything else I can…….
Anyone have any other ideas/input for me??

So the heads actually have a bridged deck on top that sits above the actual head. That deck will be getting completely replaced along with the camshaft that failed….. I was trying to see if there were any camshaft upgrades that could be made for more ponies but haven’t ran across anything so far

There was an Australian company that made "performance cams" for the 1GR, dunno about the 2GR though.

There are no camshafts for the FKS, yet. There are rods, ARP head studs, Cometic produces head gaskets in various thicknesses... though messing with the combustion chamber squish generally is not a good idea.

I’ve only heard of oiling issues on the 2GR with extreme cornering in racing applications.

The frequency of threads on here would have you believe it's any driving that isn't on a flat paved street at posted speed limits.

Seems like once a week someone posts that they drove up a hill and the truck started burning oil or blew up.

I’m driving back to New Mexico this weekend to pick up my son….. right past the place where my engine blew up. I’ll take a picture to show you exactly what “hill” I was driving up when it decided to let loose. At most I’m guessing a 10% grade lol

Or on “steep” inclines….. but who actually knows ‍♂️…… Oh yeah, Toyota that’s who….. But they sayin a goddamn thing! If you ask them the 3rd GEN is perfectly capable of doing anything you want, or need it to do……until it isn’t! Then they’ll feed you some bullshit line about you “using it out of his parameters” and you’re stuck holding the bag…… Even if they did admit to & sign off on filling it with 8 quarts of oil. SMD

    Appreciate the info
I ordered a brand new short block straight from Toyota, comes with all the low end stuff already installed, Crankshaft, rods, bearings, and pistons, already assembled. Heads Went to the machine shop today to get reworked, hopefully it goes well :fingerscrossed:

Any of the bottom end factory forged?

Also what's the skirts on the 2GR look like, seen some Toyota pistons and the skirts on them are so short it's a wonder they don't cock sideways every combustion cycle.

    Edit:

Actually come to think of it I believe the reason I was seeing those pistons come through was because they did...

I believe they were out of a couple different Venza V6's.

    Edit edit:

Hey look at that they used the 2GR back then in the 1st gen, didn't know that but...

    It explains a lot...

Forged crank, pistons, and rods I believe…..

As for the skirts, I couldn’t quite tell you…. I was at the mechanic shop yesterday going over everything but he hadn’t pulled the pistons from the old short block yet.

If you have the heads decked, run a thicker headgasket with added thickness to makeup for the material removed. Or the timing will always be off a bit.

Rods and crank are forged. Don’t believe the pistons are. They looked cast in the last FKS I had apart. They’re a half skirt design too

on the old 2gr-fe, rod failure at almost 800hp did a motor in (was stock internals) Pistons rarely are an issue in them.

I will definitely run this by the mechanic reassembling the engine, and do appreciate the “heads” up :D

Yea the big issue is with the way the chain works, one bank will be worse off than the other.

Which is why Toyota says don’t deck the heads.
