Looks like piston upgrades are available……Wonder if anybody else on here running a supercharger upgraded their pistons & rods ??

So would buying a new set of heads straight from Toyota be the answer to not having them rebuilt/decked?

theres no reason not to deck them. just be sure to run thicker gaskets to make up for it. new heads from toyota are BARE. they only have valve guides installed. you even have to hammer in the spark plug tubes. its not so cheap

even if I use a gasket to make up the difference, If Toyota says “don’t deck the heads” Would I not be better off in the long run going through the hassle of having new heads built & installed, Instead of decked & rebuilt….

I’m just trying to do it right the first time, Already going to be into this build about 20K After the supercharger edition.

I have not picked out pistons yet, but do have a set of H beam connecting rods inbound. They were designed and produced for a supercharged Lotus Evora project. If they look suitable, which I expect they will, I'll share pics and info.

The. To do it right yes, replace. UNLESS the heads don’t need to be decked. They usually don’t unless it overheated

I have to wonder again if these kinds of low mile failures have been observed on the 2GR-FE in Camrys, Avalons, etc., or are they particular to the FKS?

It seems like the 3.5 has been a superstar of reliability in Camrys and the like so I was surprised to see all these engine failure threads. Maybe the extra weight of the truck chassis negatively impacts the reliability?

Fks failures are rare. Fe is super rare. All the ones I’ve replaced have been due to drowning.
The drain back issues plague the trucks. They took a fwd design and didn’t change how draining in the head worked. So steep inclines are letting these things starve for oil

Due you mean will overfilling the engine with 2 extra quarts of oil cause failures in 2gr-fe engines? I'll bet yes, but I'm not going to try and test it out with mine.

Overfilling loves to blow out the rear main seals. But I’ve never seen an engine failure from it yet.

And we see a lot of 1-2quart over filled trucks from jiffylube

Fewer people online to complaint about engine failures in the first 85k miles, so that means there were fewer engine failures, and current owners all have engines that didn't have a defect and survived, ergo its more reliable.

So is there any viable solution or remedies you can do to make sure the heads not drowning in oil and starving the pistons???

Not really an issue unless your planning to do some serious offroading. The issue isn't that pistons starve the problem is oil getting sucked into the pcv valve when the head fills, that oil gets sucked into the intake than into the cylinder which hydrolocks the engine. A catch can solves this issue you just need to make sure its empty when offroading a severe angles.

    That’s a big 10/4
Catch can was one of the first things I ordered for the new build :bananadance:
