You still just follow the road, is it that important to know what direction you are driving in when you can only drive in 2 directions most of the time, either keep going up the road or turn back the way you came. haha

Helpful when exploring and you come to forks in the road, you're socked in due to a storm, and unfamiliar with the area. Ask me how I know :anonymous:

    crap bolted and welded together....
im going with #2, ANDDD #3. Only because if you ever do a standalone unit that needsto be wired in for the ambient temp, the compass part would be easy :D

I have a hypothesis of how to resolve the compass issue. I talked to Rob and I would be able to test my idea pretty easily. The fact that Rob is so down to earth and open to suggestions means that we can all work together to optimize the shit out of this unit! That is how you make a great idea even awesomererer.

I'll post updates once my goodies arrive and I start tinkering

I vote #2 and I'm ready to buy one right now with it disabled.

I have a compass already in my rear view mirror and my garmin gps and smart phone app.

#2, if you don't know which way you are already facing or can't find out by looking at what time it is and where the sun is I'd say you shouldn't be in BFE.. lol.

Is the device able to adjust for the change in Voltage?

Disregard, I just watched the video.

One suggestion I have is to include a wire connector for the "10 Degrees of Freedom" similar to the one you have for the switch so we can mount the unit at any angle and have the "10 Degrees of Freedom" separate so we can still have it parallel to the ground.

I'm mounting the sensors far away using a ribbon cable. Hopefully it'll be far enough to allow the compass to work.

Hey guys, small update: new display color! I found a green OLED display. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but figured there might be someone out there who wants one:

I'm still trying to find white and red OLED, those would be the ultimate. The OLED screens refresh instantly while the LCD displays have a little bit of lag as the numbers switch from one to the next. On the LCD displays I only update the screen every quarter second to minimize the appearance of the lag. But on the OLED I can update as fast as I want and everything is clear and crisp. Something to keep in mind if you're on the fence between a white LCD or the blue OLED.

Nice! That looks good. Need to just find a color changing one and everyone can just choose their own colors, if only. haha

Any chance you'll offer an amber version? I don't want to deviate from the factory style.

And roll numbers will change based on load out....

I'm just waiting on the final parts to arrive and I can start building mine. Probably this weekend, depending.

One suggestion though. Some of the caps are electrolytic - they are directional. It's easy enough to for me to pay attention to (squarehole, long pin!). For the DIY kits, you might want to make the orientation more plain and clear in the instructions. Getting them backwards could be bad.

Yeah, the silkscreen on the board has a pretty clear minus sign on the correct pin, but I'll be very clear in the assembly instructions as to which orientation they should go in.
