Hey guys! I want to build my truck for the California deserts. I'm not sure where to start. I just want to be able to go trailing out here without my back tires sliding going up hills, light bars for darkness, and other mods like that! I'm not sure where to start or what to look for :( so can anyone give me some advice? please and thank you!

The best thing anyone can do for a 2wd truck to make it more capable off-road is to add a rear differential locker, if you're concerned about traction going up hill especially. If your truck isn't a TRD Prerunner then it is not equipped with one, but you can add one. Selectable lockers like ARB are more expensive but worth it because you can turn them on/off, or you can go the full-time locker route like Lockrite or Detroit which are much cheaper but a little hairy for a daily driver.

Aside from that, when wheeling in 2wd momentum is your best friend. So any kinds of mods you can do that'll strengthen your truck and make it more capable of traveling at appropriate speeds off-road (better suspension, ground clearance, tires, etc.) is what you'll want to look into. Many people with 2wd Prerunners that are serious about desert running go with a long travel suspension setup as it designed to travel fast over desert terrain. Lots to research, if you search up above on the right by typing in any of your queries you'll find a plethora of info on suspension lifts, long travel, tires and lockers. Good luck!

Okay thanks man! I did order some long travel awhile ago, but the company that sent them to me sent me the wrong set up so I had to return them they wouldn't send me the right ones or give me my full refund back, so I just got some oem suspension for right now. Really fucked me up haha. but yeah I want it to be a daily driver that can also just hot the dirt road at any time. I have an 01 tacoma prerunner 3.4

There's a guy on here with a 2wd Prerunner that's turbo'ed with a long travel setup, it's a really awesome build but I can't remember his username. I'm sure someone else will though, you should check out his build page if he has one.

well my first plans for my truck was to do a 2jz swap with a big turbo lower it with some coil overs and go from there but I said fuck it I have a truck to play in the desert. I can always just buy a mk4 supra later on and just build that XD
