Hi guys, I'm planning to build a bumper for my tacoma
    Photoshop mockup

and was wondering how I should mount it. I was planning on running a piece of 3/16 angle in between the frame rails bolted on the front and bottom of the frame. Then I realized that I wouldn't be able to unbolt it unless I had a hole in the bumper. I want the base of the bumper as strong as possible and have very few welds in between the frame and recovery shackles just for peace of mind.

    How are bumpers normally mounted?

Do I just use the stock mounting points on the side? They don't seem strong enough, or am I just overthinking it?

Relentless front and rear bumpers, Warn M-8000S Winch, Relentless RockSliders, bigger tires, bed cover RTT ... and more big changes in the works.
I recently bent the stock mounting points on the end of the frame, and replaced them with 1/4 inch plate and nuts welded on the back side of the plate. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/deformed-frame-with-winch.582289/

That frame endcap and the bolts on the bottom of the frame ends hold on most plate front bumpers. Some people suggested a flat bar back to the body mount, but I have not done that yet.

You could do something kinda like what Trail Gear uses for the first gen bumper mounting. This is what they use. It bolts onto the original crossmember location(I'm not super sure if its called a crossmember but I think so). It has six holes on the front to bolt the bumper to it, and the bumper also has four locations on the side that bolt to the frame.

    That's a cool idea

I went with a similar method. Using the bottom frame bolts for the main strength

With some tabs to tie in the stock bumper mounts to strengthen the wings
