So im building just racks for my cap, not a full basket, but am having a hard time finding a design i like. Im kinda anal when it comes to makign things so it needs to look professional and not all bulky. Thule cost so much and i can build cheaper and stronger that look just as good. Im just trying to figure what width to make them and distance between to make them look normal and still hold skis and such. any pics or if you made some would help.

Not sure exactly what you are doing, but since I am from Maine too, we might think alike...here is what I built over my tonneau cover to hold bikes when we go camping.

Along the same idea but on top of my cap. I guess my situation is unique so im gonna mount them to fit my ski racks not and can always refab later
