Building Screens

I decided to build half walls on our screeend in patio, after having the dog and cat both run through the screens (multiple times), but clearly didn't think the project through....

I framed everything out, put up paneling, made sills, and got most of it painted before it occurred to me that I hadn't planned out the new screens. I've spent the last couple nights drinking beer and pulling staples, but need some ideas how to go about the new screens. The openings are 40x60.

Ignore the colors, those are bound to change, but anyone got ideas on how to tackle the screens?

 

What I'd do is put a strip all around the opening, like a stop, then build another frame with the screen on it and set it against the stop, then use some trim to tack it in. Sort of like how glass panels are set into doors. This way you can remove them if you need to repair one.

I think this is what I have on my porch. The local ACE carries the parts, its a little pricey but the screen stays nice and tight. I don;t have the corner pieces, just miter the base channel and caps.

I need to figure something out for winter to keep the snow out. I may build frames and put them up on the inside. I bought a roll of this stuff in hopes of making something.

Oh snap. that may be exactly what I'm looking for.

As for keeping the winter out: My Grandparent's have these big heavy canvas blinds on the porch at their timeshare. They go up in the fall and come down in the spring, but I don't think they're friendly for opening/closing on a space you might use year round.
