I'm curious to see how many people have built the 4.0 to hold higher horse power my goal is anywhere between 350-400 if you've built for higher horsepower please tell me what parts you've used (pistons, conrods, head studs, what you've tone to the trans and rear end) right now this is just an idea but if it can be done relatively easy I'd like to do it while im rebuilding my engine

Personally, I wouldn’t even try to get more horsepower out of the 4.0. The only thing I’d even consider would be a supercharger, but the prices are outrageous. You’d be better off with an engine swap to reach 350-400 horsepower as you’d sink thousands into the 4.0 platform to reach those numbers.

@Torspd put a good thread together that includes various build specs and dyno charts https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1gr-fe-f-i-mods-and-dynos.465243/

You realize he'd be ten thousand or so into a swap (unless he could do it himself...but then he likely wouldn't be asking here about building the 4.0).

350-400whp doesn't need to be built. Just don't use nitrous. Or you will have to build it.

Correct, but I’d rather spend $10k and have a platform that is known for power than a “built” 4.0 for $4-5k. To me, it’s just not worth the money to try and put more power into the existing 4.0. If you’re rebuilding it with stock components, it’s an entirely different story. Different strokes for different folks though.
