totally different terrain too.. so hard to compare. I've also only had them for a few months.. so still need some winter season testing. other than that, they grip just as well as the st maxx's did offroad (desert/mountains/rocks). they have chunked though.. but that's because we were tearin em up pretty good on our 1600 mile trip through Colorado. (wheeling and aired down on pavement sometimes). they ride smooth and quiet as well. the price was the deciding factor for me. The only thing i care about is longevity.. so time will tell. I was only able to get about 27k out of the coopers.

How did you like your new tires vs the maxx off road? Did you do anything to notice a difference one way or another?

 

well let me type that one out, this will take a minute...

 

Falken MT01 vs Cooper ST Maxx

the coopers are pretty much unbeatable everywhere except on four things, price, availability, they pull to the right and tramline like crazy, and they didnt really balance well for me.

This being said, i have noticed some sacrifices with the $250-300 i saved by purchasing these Falkens...

First, they took a considerable amount of weights to balance but they were rock solid and still are so far
Second, they are louder than my coopers were, and are getting louder.
Third, they chunked on the shale at GR. The coopers NEVER did, these things look beat already (on the rears only).
Fourth, they did not get me up the rock ledge on Jacob's road...never had trouble there with the coopers...but its also super rutted up there from people trying it and failing.

I'm still pleased with them. They are super grippy of pavement. Their wet road performance leaves some to be desired...they slip and squirm around...plus when you drift with them, they howl like a fucking fire whistle causing the entire county to look at you and believe you to be an asshole (surely).

Were you aired down when trying the obstacle? Maybe the sidewalls are still nice and stiff. The coopers could have been a bot more broken in, so even while aired up they flexed a little more. Just a guess.

 

I went down from 35 all the way around, to 25 in the front and 28 in the rears. I still wanted to be able to slide around lol. I bet if i had aired down to 15-18, i would have had a better obstacle experience but i always worry about rolling a bead in a slide

 

I can agree with that. I always air down for comfort and dicking around on obstacles, but I'd never drift a a corner aired down. That's just asking for trouble.

 

i have seen videos of these falkens aired way down, so i knew they would perform, they just arent as forgiving for my antics as the coopers
