Nothing worth while going on here....

Left a note on a 4runner in hopes of the owner contacting me so that i can offer to buy it...
Have not heard from them yet...

Heard back from the gentleman with the 3rd gen runner today.

    The details:

    2000
    Sport
    5spd 3.4
    4x4
    Black
    229k
One owner with full service records
    Timing belt done every 60k
    Completely stock
    Steering rack repair done recently
“Some sort of bearing and seal in the rear” also done recently
    Original clutch

I looked some things up and i’m prepared to go look it over and ask to see all the paper work. I have an idea what i’d like to offer but that may change depending on what i see. I’d also at least like for him to take me for a ride in it, and i’ll probably ask to drive it.

@Mobtown Offroad @Tonymontana @68dave @greengen1 is there anything specific i should check or look out for?

I put stickers for more horse power!
Off course; I would check for Rust on frame, inside and outside, by the gas tank (excessive rust or holes)
and Make sure the coolant and trans fluid are not mixed together; "pink milkshake on 4runners" (auto transmission)
Some leak from valve covers are common, be sure the leak does not come from head gasket issues

What Tony said, check that frame. I take a small hammer and tap the frames. 229k miles and still has its original clutch tells me it's most likely mostly highway miles. I have 220k on my 2000 4runner, still runs like a dream and I'm averaging 400 miles a week. Check the maintenance records for LBJ replacement. If no documentation to confirm that they've been replaced you should factor that into your offer.

I’m factoring in that i will likely need to change all fluids, coolant, brake fluid trans fluid flush, diffs, tcase, powersteering, etc. i will likely also have to do a clutch soon because my learning process will likely damage it. He said that it will need a timing belt within 11k miles for sure or sooner due to time. So all of that including LBJs is factoring into price. It has some dents and dings, a little bumper rot. The power antenna and CD player are all that does not function according to the owner.

Can i put tacoma LBJs on it?

I believe 1st gen Tacoma are the same as a 3rd gen 4runner.

Dont think so. Look up part #'s on rockauto and see if they're the same.

    Amazon.

It was way too expensive for how basic it is. No way to open it and no filter on it.

But it does have a 14mm machined aluminum drain plug and a sight glass. Its all billet aluminum with aluminum and stainless hardware.

I just wish it unscrewed so i could add a brass filter or some stainless steel wool to help keep the oil in it. I’m going to clean my TB, MAF, Intake, and put in new plugs soon. So we shall see if it captures anything and how well it works. May upgrade to a better one eventually.

Also, it was DUMB HARD to get 9.5mm(ID) hps silicone hoses over 12mm(OD) nipples on the mishimoto can
