Objectively - the LEDs are better, but they're white. White in the snow suuuucks. I use the halogens so that in the winters I can swap for a warmer yellow for the snow. I am very happy without the LED low beams.

Anyway - in regards to OP, VooDoo blue is chances are only available in a higher trip than the SR, and the popup was "only available with the LED DRLs", since the lower trims do not have the LED DRLs. Just the trim/options laddering and a misunderstanding/poor communications from Toyota.

Drove the LED's in snow and wasnt bothered by the output or glare...that's why I have yellow Rigid pod fogs, If I ever need them.

So you are saying that YOUR anecdotal experience is more valuable than mine?

    That's rich.

I've often wondered at the plethora of people on this forum encouraging everyone to BUY, BUY, BUY... and so often OEM. Why is that? I just recently saw a thread about bed mats, the op asking for advice... and the first five posts recommended OEM. Does anyone ever consider that there might be shills working here? Do people follow blindly... ever? Yeah, I think they do. And they most often prove it by refusing to question the opinions most easily swallowed. Why would an OEM bedmat be so much better than something reasonably priced?

I've done it similar with HIDs instead of LEDs, but the same temperature. It's not bad for a while but for a few hours, at night, it gets to you. Not too bad in RI but up in Maine, etc and during storms, yeah over time it's noticeable. Old habit I guess, I'm in RI now but was in NH/ME for years.

There's no need for anecdotes - this dude's doing science with it all.

What is anecdotal about me driving both styles of OEM tacoma headlights on the same truck? That is OBJECTIVE reality. You compare your shitty halogens to another make and model's shitty LED's ,OEM or not we dont know, yet you try to equate your experience with mine? LOL

It’s an opinion of course, but an opinion backed by lots of real-world experience, not based on some sort of ‘headlight duel’ in a dark valley.

I only upgraded to the OEM LEDs because I was hit and insurance was giving me $600 for a standard halogen light. I was completely disappointed in the light output in this truck from my 2nd gen, which was totaled. I found a 3 month old set of OEM LEDs on craigslist from a lease turn in for @ $900 and pulled the trigger, since I objectively determined that the 3rd gen halogens were garbage. I wouldnt have paid $1500 to upgrade

Well I'll compare experience with you any day. How many years have you worked in the automotive industry? How many dealerships have you worked at? Have you worked in the aftermarket? How many vehicles have you worked on personally, and to what degree? How many mechanics have you helped with how many different issues? How many show cars have you built, and didn't pay someone to build it for you? How many of your trucks have you changed out the headlights on... and compared side by side with only one side changed? Did you make your comparison in your driveway on your garage door?

Yeah, I only exampled a single representative sample of my experience, one that represented my conclusion. It's my conclusion to have, and mine to express. If you have a different conclusion then state it... but don't denigrate mine because you think yours is superior by virtue of your "experience".

I worked at several dealers have a mint 86 ttype that I built and they mean absolutely nothing in regard to the OE halogen and OE LED comparison. I drove the same truck with both lights. After a year with 3rd Gen Halogens, after years with 2nd gen OE lights and then literally a week apart, when I got my truck back from the shop. That is the argument. Your's about a handmade sign and a neighbors truck to prove that lights you dont own or use are "not worth it" is ridiculous.. Have a nice day

How about you have an ‘experience’ with the LED headlights on a 20+ Taco and report back? Have I said that before? I feel like I have LOL

I’m not interested in getting into a wrench-measuring contest. Check my profile for pics of my current custom cars and trucks, all of which I wrench on and drive/off-road all over the Southwest.

Enjoy your time in the ‘dark valley’ with your friend o_O

This is exactly my experience. My '18 came with the halogen projectors. I tried every high performance H11 halogen in them which were massive improvements over the stock Long Life bulbs but the improvement after installing (and properly aiming) the 2020 LEDs pushed the lighting into another category. They're objectively better in every way and put more light more evenly over a broader area than ever before without over lighting the foreground, with the hotspot being just below the cutoff which puts more light down the road without over lighting close to the vehicle. Yes, they measure colder than the halogens coming in at about 6600Kelvin on the C700U color temperature meter but since we humans do automatic white point adaptation, we just assume the brightest near white to be white anyway and it's never been an issue as neither has the lower Contrast Rendering Index(approximately 68) of the LEDs. Higher CRI is great for photography and video but not really so critical for driving. If I lived in snowy climes maybe I'd consider the halogens but since I don't there's simply no contest.

I'm not calling you a moron, but what kind of moron fills their sealed beams with water? OK, maybe I am.

Filling them with water allows them to run cooler J/K :p

Seriously I’m guessing the comment relates to sealed-beams which developed a crack and let some water in. My two VW’s use sealed beams, one of which used to have a crack in it, yet still worked with water in it.

LED’s will be old news soon. Tacoma’s will all come with laser lamps on the 2022 like the BMW X5 European model.

I'm not going to do too much research because I don't care that much but I went to the Ford site to configure both a ranger and f150 in the and was unable to find a LED headlight option for anything under the lariat trim. So that's the most common xl/XLT models. Obviously, I don't know what truck is being spoken of, nor do I care terribly, but I'd guess that it's a standard trim truck with halogen lights

I think it's that even by accident now you get the LED's whether you want them or not. Who knows if OP even knew he wanted them in the first place on his present truck.
