:confused:I am interested in buying a black bull bar for my 04 double cab tacoma. I am aware of such brands as WESTIN and ARIES and really dont feel like paying 200+ just for a brand name on the middle of my bull bar. Does anyone know of an off brand bull bar company that offers solid cheap bull bars for 04 tacomas? Thanks dawgs.:eek:

Got mine off ebay. I can't give you a link because I got it about 2 years ago, but I like it. I don't know about the name brand ones but mine is hollow and pretty light weight. But it has survived a deer so it works pretty good. Plus it came with light mounts.

Crap. Only works for me 'cause I already won the auction. I'll see if I can find another one that's still active.

There isn't another one listed. It's an Aries, black with a removable skid plate. Cost me 225 bucks and 45 for shipping. Have to watch out on ebay, there's a lot of bull bars for sale for less but if you read the fine print the mount kit isn't included.

Hitting that phone pole was expensive.

Smittybuilt makes what they call a grille saver which is the same and I think they are considerably cheaper than Westin.

none of what has been posted is a bullbar. Aries, Westin, NFab whatever are not bullbars. They are lightbars or light duty brushguards at best. If that is what you are after, that's fine.

Bullbars are found at companies like ARB, Shrockworks, CBI and a few others. Generally these are heavy steel bumper that fully replace the OEM bumper and include realtively heavy gauge tubing on top of the bumper to protect the grill and headlights from animal strikes.

the ones you've listed will only multiply damage in the event of an actual animal strike.

I agree with you that the Aries/Westin "bull bars" are generally kinda crappy, and don't offer any real protection, however it seems like what you're talking about are just straight up armored bumpers, not bull bars.

Can't say about animal strikes, I've never hit an animal thankfully. But I can tell you my non-authentic-bull-bar saved most of my front end when I hit a phone pole at 30MPH. Hit it about a foot from center towards drivers side. Destroyed the bar and one of the off road lamps. Didn't even set the airbags off. Had a half dozen people say something like "good thing you had that bull bar on it would have been a lot worse".

    Just my experience.
