You could sew cloth around a thin AR-500 plate and slip it into the map holder pocket in the back of the seats. That would be an easy way to prevent being shot in the back.

Aside from that bulletproofing the entire truck would add a couple thousand pounds of steel and cost a fortune.

If you care for them why not move to somewhere less dangerous, doesn't need to be somewhere expensive...

Bro, if you’re concerned about the Texas heat, then you’re not THAT concerned about your safety.

Ever just think about…firing back if the situation arose?

So you put a few plates in your taco..
You’re door panels are sheet metal. You will be shot all the same, so you need to line those doors with level 1p Kevlar. Adds weight to taco.
But you’re basically in a 3rd world country right? And you’re concerned about rifle fire, so you need to add ballistic plates. So you need your panels lined with that too. Glass needs to be pulled out and replaced with bullet proof glass. Adds another 500 lbs to taco. MINIMUM.

You’re engine is probably aluminum. What if the enemy shoots your engine and mobility kills you, then surrounds your vehicle??

Next post, we should start talking IED’s, defeating bullet proof glass. If you can’t afford to move, you probably can’t afford to properly bullet proof your truck. A few plates aren’t going to do anything but give you a false sense of security. Assuming things are as bad as you describe. Which is nothing compared to Detroit. Lol

If you are worried about being shot, then you arent staying low profile enough. Buy a shit box with a reliable drive train. The more deep body rust, the better.

Moving isn't an option. I am seeking advice from people that know the process and options for bulletproofing a 2nd gen. Tacoma. Once again any feedback would be appreciated. For those that say this doesn't warrant a thought haven't been to Houston.

I know weight will be an issue, and I was planning on updating suspension with heavier duty springs. There are a couple of dealerships in the area that offer bulletproof vehicles, but they are super expensive. Any helpful feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

for real OP, an actual bullet proof tacoma would likely only be built by a government contractor who doesnt spend their time on tacoma world, or a cartel contractor and you can contact them on tacomaworld.com/cartel but they only type in spanish.

Seriously, by the time you actually bulletproof your truck, it’ll be too slow to be worth driving and with the money you’ll spend- you would have a down payment for a place somewhere else.

If you are legitimately concerned about taking rounds your beat option is to bulletproof yourself first.

Get a vest, get a helmet, get full coverage stuff with the leg pieces etc find a used EOD suit or something.

Normal steel plates will not stop bullets like you think they will.

Using only 5.56 I have shot through 3/8" plate of A36 mild steel.

Plating your truck in A500 will exceed not just your trucks weight capacity but your budget.

The guys over in the sad box had F350's beefed up to be bulletproof and the doors were always falling off them and suspension breaking due to the weight.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do and maybe you are in a really rough area but when I lived in the ghetto the best protection was to look broke and be friendly.

Outside of Kabul getting that bad?

Chase tactical has proper NIJ cert plates for a good budget, and revision is probably as good as you'll get for reliable NIJ helmets. Just don't buy into the milspec crap, those pads on the ACH is a cost saving measure and will increase the likeluhood of head trauma over a good harness system.

With the weight you'd need an engine with more torque and you wouldn't be able to roll down your windows. The glass alone would cost more than the truck. I'd say do what others do in america with so many guns in the country...
