No problem man. Kevlar or UHMWPE fabric laminated with each layer being rotated 90 degrees should be decent protection. There are Youtube videos about it.

There was a member on here who I think has long gone that made some Kevlar/ceramic panels and placed them in the doors.

It’s not much less a common occurrence as it was 20 years ago. Just the internet gives people a platform that people would otherwise not hear about.

If you are 25-40 years old and seen a (1) shooting, then it’s still just a rare occurrence. The best protection is firing back.

You wouldn’t think people are being tortured in a garage, executed and chopped into bits and thrown in a river in such a “liberal” paradise state.

    But here we are: https://www.kget.com/bakersfield3/s...r-micah-holsonbake-recovered-mother-says/amp/

I feel like some of the people on this thread are just now realizing the world isn’t all sunshine’s and rainbows. It’s wild.

I love STL. My family is from there and I always enjoy visiting. I like the pubs and the women, but you're right. My family there use to build guns and whatnot. Take care up there.

NV is an open carry state but I only see people open carrying around town maybe half a dozen times a year. Most would rather not advertise that they are armed since they would likely be one of the first targets if shit does go down.

Yeah, they're the same people that say, "you can't DIY armor Tacoma"

Here in VA you can open carry at 18. I have my CCP and always laugh at the ones walking around, especially in Walmart, with their guns hanging on their sides. It screams look I’m trying to intimidate you, but don’t worry I’ll be shot first. There are shootings pretty much every night in the 7 cities of Hampton Roads. I carry but I don’t advertise it or think about adding Kevlar or whatnot to my vehicles. Imagine being in Chicago where hundreds are shot pretty much each weekend!

At work, we transported brand new 79 series Land Cruisers that I assume had been imported to the US, converted to armored vehicles, and then exported overseas, bound for the middle east.

The armor was in the doors, entire body (sides, roof, floor pan) all bolted in to the interior skin of the cars. All glass was thick bulletproof stuff.
The suspension was beefed up with fox shocks and larger springs for the added weight of armor. The 1HZ diesel engines had some obvious bolt-ons for more power (intercoolers)

Very cool to see. For anyone who has never seen 79 series in person, the 4 door short bed versions are remarkably similar in looks of size and proportions to a DCSB Tacoma. Obviously they have very different payloads and capabilities though.IMG_1707.HEIC.jpg IMG_1708 2.HEIC.jpg IMG_1709.HEIC.jpg

Actually, my point was more “it’s silly to armor your Tacoma.”

Especially when being shot in your vehicle is a rare occurrence. Unless you live in chiraq. In which case do what you gotta do, but you also can’t afford a Tacoma.

ya’ll fear for your life so much and also afraid of the heat, and also don’t want a wear Kevlar and also don’t want to shoot back… sell your taco, get a better job and get this.

Based on what you've written I'm going to assume that you haven't taken any classes on situational awareness or driving- start there. Situational awareness and not putting yourself in stupid situations is a better plan. Do your shopping during the day, avoid bad areas, maintain your vehicle and keep it at least half full, know alternative routes, etc.

If you're serious, I'd say you could start by picking up a copy of Left of Bang: How the Marine Corps' Combat Hunter Program Can Save Your Life.

As others have noted, the Tacoma is a light duty vehicle and will not carry the extra weight of much armor, not for very long anyways. If you're ever around an uparmored vehicle you'll quickly notice that everything on them is upgraded including the door hinges (which still wear out); if you take any classes on actually driving them you'll quickly realize they suck for anything other than what they were designed for.

Looking at current realistic threats, I could see adding 3M window tint/film to the glass to prevent shattering (they make film designed for this purpose but you'll have to learn how to defeat it and extricate yourself if needed since you won't be breaking the glass to climb out). I could see upgrading the bumpers and being able to disable the airbags. Adding some panels behind the seats would be doable, but the crappy factory door hinges aren't going to support weight in the doors.

Main take away- get some situational awareness training and driving classes under your belt.

And the suspension. If you need 10 armored Land Cruisers you better get 15 because 1/3 of them will be down for suspension component replacement at any given time.

I thought everyone in Texas was a "Good Guy With a Gun" shouldn't need bulletproof anything right?

Yep, the original ones we had in Iraq were sidelined in short order as the suspensions sucked so bad they were dangerous to drive. Any evasive maneuvering was a roll hazard.

There’s a place in Mexico City that'll do it for you. I’m not entirely sure if the cabin is also reinforced with plating, but I’m sure they can work something out. :D

Edit: I checked the listing, it says that the entire cabin is reinforced along with the tires, fuel tank, and can withstand 5.56, 7.62, .357, 9mm, and even a grenade blast.

Hey bud, here's a video provided by my favorite fellow native Oregonian

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qXwdBOZzpY

With that said, just f'ing move if you're that concerned about getting shot (just don't move to Oregon). Your next best option would be to buy a vest w/ plate pockets on at your vitals.
