I just wanted to add to this as someone who distributes "bullet proof" products, it's "bullet resistant" not "bullet proof".
When someone says they want "bullet proof" I correct them every time because depending on the level it's only going to withstand so many shots from certain calibers.
Level 1 glass is designed to withstand one shot from a 9 mil and that's exactly where most people are going to aim and most people carry high capacity pistols.

My ex girlfriend's brother actually got shot through his car door while road raging with someone in Houston. It hit him in the leg and he bled to death internally on her doorstep while she was at work. He was not sober and didn't realize he was dying.
Even with this I am never going to consider adding any bullet resistance to my vehicle because that is ridiculous.

Something else interesting I discovered shooting steel doors for fun.
Defensive handgun round are very unlikely to penetrate 2 layers of 16g. steel spaced ~1-3/4" apart due to the way hollow points expand. They just bulge out the 2nd layer.
Target/ball rounds penetrated both layers everytime due to not expanding.

Point is you're never really safe and if someone is shooting at you in you car pray they're aiming at your doors and using expensive ammo.

Jose_Dirte you are correct. There is no such thing as "bullet proof". Bullet resistant is a better term. I am sorry for your ex-girlfriends loss, as this happens frequently. That is why I am just trying to get educated people to throw out ideas for better bullet protections.

Also no offense to our TacomaWorld brothers and sisters, but I find it ridiculous to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on mods to trucks when the value of a vehicle depreciates the moment you drive it off the lot. So for me spending some money to slow down a 9 mm or other (preferably non-ball rounds) is worth it. My Tacoma is paid off, but I don't think it's good financial advice to spend on a long travel suspension, with all the bells and whistles. Some people just got money to burn others don't. I saw a dude spend like $50k on upgrades and mods to his Tacoma, and to me that's crazy. A lot crazier that adding Kevlar to seats or doors. Not trying to be a troll, just being honest.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
Open carry has been legal in the state of VA for 18 year olds without permit or formal training for decades here.

Our crime rate is also lower.

Find another one of the many reasons to blame the crime on. Like drugs and lack of economic prosperity.

Also people can just be shit.

These, some plates in seat back carriers, and you're good as it needs to be. Doubt OP has any extra riders so really only need the kevlar in the front two doors.

So do you not do improvements on your house? Putting better suspension components on a truck for it to perform better is the same thing. Spending a ton of money to make an unrealistic “bulletproof” Tacoma seems like a financial waste than building a truck that can be used to have fun. No one goes into adding things to their trucks with the mindset that they are going to increase the value of the truck. We all know you never get back what you’ve put into it. Spend the money that you aren’t using to upgrade components on the truck to buy a new house in a nicer part of town or in a nicer neighboring town.

I think it would be best to invest it in cameras inside your truck,Kevlar vest,or a concealed carry and also death insurance too if your so paroniod or worried it’s not worth the effort to fully bulletproof your truck we’re not living in Iraq or Afghanistan dude

Why not just wear a bulletproof vest while driving?

For whatever reason, they don't want to wear one. I think it's probably the best solution for a drive to work with no passengers.

I like all the smooth brains showing up to tell people not to think about how to solve a hypothetical problem with ideas. Kind of amazing to be honest. Do you just sit and stare at things repeating the name of the things in your head over and over?

Try imagining a situation where the thing you're looking at is doing something different than what it's doing currently. Then think about how to make it do that thing. That's what we're doing here.
