I had a DSM back in the day that did the same thing -- what was happening was the stock ECU could sense the piggyback's fuel changes and slowly trimmed the car back to stock. Happened about once every two weeks.
I don't know how that is possible in this situation since the BD is supposed to reflash, but that's what it reminded me of.

I have the same issue with my 2013. When I try to cruise down a hill to help my mileage my truck decides to down shift, make my rpms jump and my truck jerks back from the deceleration. Glad I'm not the only one. I'm assuming it is programed that way to keep control over the truck when you are towing large loads, but that's just a shot in the dark.

If you're worried about that, just push the shifter into neutral. Then, slip it back into drive near the bottom of the hill.

However, your theory is wrong. The reason you are engine braking, is to save fuel. When you are engine braking, your injectors are OFF. When you are in neutral, the engine is idling, using fuel. This if verified by mine (and many others) scangauges.

if you don't like engine braking, i guess you were never raised driving a manual transmission vehicle?

I've watched my scan guage when shifting to neutral vs coasting and there is no difference in mpg. With the cruise set its a different story.

There's a setting on the SG to tell it if you have injector cutoff.

I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure I read on here that the auto stops circulating atf in neutral and that can burn up the transmission if your just rolling around in neutral

There is a rpm threshold, when you are under it your injectors are still working. I will from around 50 mpg while coasting down a hill to 999mpg when I am in gear and off the gas. Like others have said, you might not have the scan Guage setting on.

I meant to say ultra guage. I've just put it into neutral when going down a hill and the instant mpg doesn't change.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
I do a lot of first gear driving up and down steep rural roads and so have plenty of time to observe the DFCO threshold.

As rpms are rising, DFCO engages at 1,800 rpms. The ECU releases control back to the idle circuit at 1,400 rpms as rpms are falling.
