As far as I know this new ECU should be plug and play other than programming in the vin and the immobilizer system. Right?
I ordered the exact one that the toyota dealer told me to order.

Yikes, sucks to hear about bricking your ecu. Glad to hear you found a replacement though. I haven't heard good things in general about Bully Dog on this forum, but that's mostly on the supercharged trucks. On the flip side, if you're interested in tuning your truck better, it seems the HP Tuners route is the way to go.

I should probably ask this in that HP Tuners thread, but so no more bricking issues? That was the one thing that I was discouraged about.

In regards to the quoted messages in @Torspd post.

The VIN does not HAVE to be reprogrammed, but to keep everything on the up-and-up it's wise, especially if you intend to tune the vehicle as HPTuners uses a combination of the VIN and Calibration ID to do the licensing. The immobilizer re-sync is mandatory as the truck won't run without doing this procedure. It's posted elsewhere here in the forum but if you need a link to it I can link it.

Your dealer can easily reprogram the VIN or if they're not willing or they're cost prohibitive, I'm happy to do it for you for just shipping costs back and forth.

Is the OP supercharged or still naturally aspirated?

Yeah if you could link how to re sync the immobilizer that would be appreciated. I also think that I can reprogram the vin with the snap on scanner my buddy has. Could be wrong though.

I remember flashing motherboard BIOSes in the past and would always panic while the loading bar was going. Wouldn't have the stones to try that with my truck... seeing as I was worried about bricking a $150 dollar motherboard.

My truck runs perfect. Never messed with the ECU, just gears, lockers, skids, Kings, and more. Moab tested w/no problems at all. Some things are just better when left alone. Good luck with your truck.

uhhh dunno. it would cost me roughly 900 to get my taco tuned with hp tuners, 700ish for ov tunes 4.0 tune.

I don't find that worth it at all on an n/a truck.

I really don't see where it is the fault of his buddy. His buddy wasn't tinkering with the truck. I was assuming the tuner was given in trade for the money owed.

Why lol, buddy took the tuner over cash. His friend didn't force him to brick his ecu.

edit: I quoted the wrong guy :anonymous:

    $900?

    MPVI2: $299, Four Credits: $200, My tune $50.
    or
Send me your ECU (or a spare) and I'll flash it for $250.

I'll go as far as to refund you the $250 and send you back a stock ECU if you don't think it's worth it.
