Biggest thing I remember in school was the new kid that transferred from out of state. He was quiet , never talked to anyone. One day I had taken the bus to school since my car was getting repaired. I skipped football practice for fear of not having a ride home and took the bus home. That afternoon about 5 other guys all twice this kids size had decided they were getting off the bus with him to "welcome" him into the new school. Basically beat the shit out of him and take whatever he had.

After over hearing the conversation I sat quietly by and waited until we got to his stop. He got up and went out the door followed by the other 5 boys. And then by myself. I walked past the other guys and caught up with the new kid. Told him to just keep walking and when we get close to his house run in and lock the door. As soon as we finished talking I heard the other boys running to catch up and yelling at him. We kept going until he was in his house and I turned to the guys and told them if they wanted him they would have to earn it. Dropped my bags and was ready. The other guys turned and left.

I'm not gloating in this story at all. But that was the kind of bullying in my school. 5 on 1 until someone bigger and stronger stands up. Those kids probably have forgotten about me and what happened that day a long time ago. But the kid that was gonna get jumped. No one ever picked on him again at that school.

I remember being like that! I got the belt one day when I was ten or eleven for saying "Hell." :D You bet I didn't cuss back then. Now is a different story though...
I agree, it does seem like the kids these days are getting softer. I may not be as hardy as previous generations, but even I can notice a difference in the kids younger than me. The kids of my little brothers' generation. They're all like "Let's act like we are grown, but when we get in trouble or get in a bind, act like little kids, all "woe is me." Youngest brother does dumb shit like that all the time. He gets whipped and grounded for stuff all the time, like coming home at 12 AM, (he JUST turned 14, and has been acting like this for a couple years now) calling Mom a bitch, fighting Dad, smoking pot, stealing, etc. And when he gets in trouble for it, first, he tries to fight Dad. And then he'll start the whole "I'm gonna kill myself because I'm grounded" bullshit. He's one of those over-dramatic little punks. Not to say I don't love him, cause he's my brother, but... you know.

I agree with you- parents all over are trying too hard to be their kid's best pal. There's nothing wrong with being friends with your kid, in a manner of speaking, but when the time comes for discipline, that's when that crap has got to stop. That's when you put your foot down. And none of this "Bobby, if you do that again, you won't get candy later," crap. It's "Bobby, if you don't cut it out right now, I'm gonna whip your ass." Parents are being too soft on their kids. They are supposed to teach them right from wrong, and how to act.
Unfortunately, even those with traditional discipline styles are being forced in the other direction by the relentless flow of the majority. If they whip their kid, they might get turned in. Hell, if their kid attacks them in a tantrum, and the parent merely restrains the kid (pinning them, etc.) the parent can still get in trouble. And many of the kids use it to their advantage. My youngest brother, same one mentioned above, likes to threaten my dad with the whole "I'm going to tell my guidance counselor you hit me" thing.

So true! Even I remember saying that many times when I was in elementary school... I think we all did. :D

My friend's daughter threatened to call the cops. He went to hand her the phone and said "before you do it, remember this: If they agree with you, they can't let you live here anymore. You'll be in a foster home. If you really think that's what is best for you, here's the phone". Never once did any of his kids take him up on it.

I got my ass whooped at 16 yrs old..told my mother to shut up. Less than 5 minutes later my dad was yelling at me and I started crying, which got "oh okay here's something to cry about" haha. Then it was "what's wrong you're tough enough to talk to your mother like that right?"

I think it's interesting how guys can usually shrug off bullying, but girls are usually the ones that take their lives because of it. Maybe it's because guys are mostly about physical bullying, and when it's over, it's over. But girls take it to the grave with emotional attacks.

I get pissed at my coworkers sometimes, and we hash it out, and then we go drink at the bar together. My GF gets into emotional confrontations everyday with her coworkers and have left the past 4-5 jobs because of it. I just dont get it.

I was bullied somewhat in high school but when I started football and bulked up they all backed off lol. Kids need to grow up and get some thick skin. I mean schools should go after the bullies and tell the parent either take care of it or your little shit is expelled. Another thing kids need to Tacoma World they would get their feelings hurt a lot if they said something stupid on here haha

Has anyone seen the commercial for chewable gummy vitamins? It shows a kid refusing to eat his vegetables, so, the only alternative is to bow to him and just give him a vitamin to supplement nutrition. I'm sure, I am not the only kid in america, who sat for hours at the table till vegetables were eaten. Most parents seem to be afraid to have confrontations with their own kids and just acquiesce immediately.

    Exactly ^^

There's also a lot of "parents" who don't want to be a parent but would rather be their kids' best friend.

I hated how strict my parents were when I was a kid but looking back, I'm very grateful for it. My dad was a Marine Recon Instructor when I was growing up, so there was no option to disobey or disrespect my parents. If I messed up, I got my ass whooped. When I got older and unwisely thought I could "take" my dad, he calmly handed me boxing gloves (he taught hand to hand combat in Recon school). I got my ass handed to me. I ended up being very close with my dad and still am to this day. My parents taught me right and wrong. When I messed up, I paid for it.

If only parents would stop being afraid of their own kids, and kids knew there were consequences, things would be different.

I have three kids ranging from 1st grade to high school, and I have no qualms about spanking their rear ends when they mess up. My older son and I are very close and he knows he can come to me with anything, but he also knows there's a price to pay when he messes up. He now is in the National Honor Society, straight A student, and a captain on the football team. Seems parenting and loving your kids does work. Imagine that.

Truth. I had an ex that her family and friends would say she was a bitch and I didn't see it AT ALL when I was with her. As soon as I broke up I saw it and now I don't even like talking to her, let alone banging her :p

Don't hate. I'm just a dirty dog trying to find a place to bury my bone
