Going to Palo Duro Canyon for a couple of days. Nothing crazy (Offroad recovery course), but any thoughts of removing my Sumo Blues and reinstalling the OEM stock rear bump stops for that?

    I'd include more info
Why were the sumos added? The OE leaf springs are awfully soft (too soft IMO) and the OE bumps are hard as a rock.
I would assume since you are traveling, you will have gear weight in the bed,,, which doesn't take much more than a load of groceries to cause bottoming out with the OE leaf packs.

No extra weight….maybe 35# recovery gear but you made a good guess. The reason they are on there to begin with is that on a vacation last year with my wife and about 75# of luggage plus her…my OEM springs were collapsed and every small bump, driveway transition, and interstate highway bridge was slammin’.

My personal opinion is that if you are actually hitting your bump stops on a regular basis, you should upgrade your shocks and/or springs. Bump stops are a safety device for when the suspension is overwhelmed.

Correct. That is why I installed them. I also upgraded my shocks with Bilstein.

I have stock bump stops, king shocks, and don’t consider my truck a mall crawler. AFAIK my bump stops have never contacted my frame. It might have happened. The truck has taken some hard hits, but how is one to know without video or physical evidence? I have bigger things to worry about.

CAVEAT: hydraulic bump stops are different sort of thing

Only reason I would consider adding bump stops would be if I was towing. Other than that they bottom out too early for my liking.

Why is towing a concern? It’s so mellow compared to high payloads and high speed off roading? The tongue weight of a typical trailer is low compared to a heavy payload.

No, don't do that. OEM stock bumpstops are garbage for cushioning.

    Agreed!
I did add Duro bump stops when we did my rear leaf springs and shocks,,, but that was an OS measure,,, and I’ve never needed em. Hindsight; I don’t need em and that’s the way I think it should be. For better or for worse; the Tacoma was sprung for comfort first which imo puts payload last.

Put a Road Active Suspension kit on it. Best of both worlds imho.
