So I made my decision on shocks and leaf springs and now I am just waiting for everything to arrive to install. I got the Stage 3 ADS suspension and medium Dakars.

But it occurs to me that maybe I need to think about bump stops. Is the OEM bump stop adequate? Is it common for folks to upgrade them? What are the popular choices?

    Thanks in advance.

I’m looking as well. I’m leaning towards the ubolt flip kit and timbren bump stops.

I was thinking about these "shock style" bumpstops like ADS, Icon, etc. I think my main question is how easy these are to install.

I guess another question is whether the medium Dakars cause any fitment issues for the U-bolt type kits.

Not sure yet either. I have a set of medium Dakar’s waiting to be installed. Guess I’ll figure it out soon enough. Not sure if I’m gonna do the flip kit or not. I really don’t do any crazy off-roading. Mostly just hunting national forest roads.

Some advice: Don’t bother with bumpstops until you upgrade your suspension. I was obsessing over bump stops, active bump stops, hydraulic bump stops yadda yadda, until I upgraded my leaf springs and rear shocks. Now that I never hit the bump stops, they are far from my mind. I used to smack them all the time.

The fellow who assembled my leaf pack told me this ^^ wisdom. He assured me that once my suspension was properly set up, the factory bump stops would be adequate.

So far he has been right.

You nailed it for me too: I am looking at national forest roads that haven't seen maintenance since Ike was President to get back there from hunting, fishing and camping. But no wild stuff that would lead to, for instance, jumping or anything like that.

I have 5100s and a custom add-a-leaf (factory packs disassembled and an leaf added to the middle). Rear ride height is 1” over stock height.

I run a Fiberglass camper shell that is fully stuffed with camping gear on trips. I used to bottom out all the time. On my last 7 day off highway trip I never bottomed out once, even with two passengers and me. Bump stops were dusty (no marks from contact) at the end of each day.

Are you referring to hydraulic bumps?

If so I have them not that hard to install just a bitch to cut off and bang out the rivets.
It's not hard in the sense of knowledge just brute force annoying

I had the u bolt flip kit timbrens before they're good. I just swapped because I felt like it lol

Ive got ADS all around with dakars HD in the back. I went with the wheelers superbumps + ubolt flip kit.

I have definitely still hit the bumps off roading and would highly suggest you swap out those crappy, hard stock bump stops. I went with SuperBumps over Timbrens as they are better if you haev a lot of weight in the rear. From what I have read anyhow.

Plus the ubolt flip kit will give yuou a couple inches of clearance from under the axle. Worth it. IIRC, its like 120 for both at wheelers

Is there any possibility you could point me to the links for exactly which items you got? Thanks!

    Yes that sure is.

The cool thing about that one, the plates have a kickout which would allow you to get the hydraulic or air bumps int he future. I wanted them to start as well but unless you are jumping in the desert, it may be overkill. They look super great though.

How are you liking the leaf? Does it add some sturdiness to the rear? I have a 1” block in the rear and it rides fine with the 5100 shock but when I load 500+lbs in the bed it’ll drop and bottom on on bumps.

I run a similar setup. ADS, Dakars and ubolt flip kit. Zero fitment issues. It's a great setup!
