Man that is beefy. I was just out at my truck and came in with a new question (any chance the flipped U-bolt ends could hit the frame?) but I can see from your pic that is not really a concern.

I dont think there is a chance as the bumpstop will bottom out before the frame hits the ubolts. Ive jumped this truck a little and if that wouldnt compress it that far, not sure what would.

How are you liking the HDs by the way? How much rear lift did they give you?

I went with the mediums but could envision myself upgrading.

Ive got a bunch of weight so I needed beefy rear setup. Im a DCLB, run a mid height rci rack and cvt tent along with c4fab swingout rear bumper. It was sagging bad with just the Dakar HD (CS047R) springs so I added an AAL and an axle shim i think they call it. You can see the block of metal under the leafs, thats what im talking about. It adds 1/2".

Now at full load, i am .75" rake which gives it a great stance. Unloaded, its like 2"! lol. Since i run the rtt/tent all the time, it works out well.

Rides real nice and the ext travel ADS in the rear provide a lot of droop which makes it smoother in the back over rocks.

I run the Diamondback HD cover and it barely moved the needle on rear lift. Now I am adding stuff like cross bars to run stuff overland on the cover, so I may need to revisit the add a leaf game.

I'm going to let the ADS shocks and medium Dakars settle and see where I am at that point. I may need to make some adjustments then.

    Good idea.

When the truck needs an AAL or what not, it will be obvious as the ass will be sagging!

Did you get the clicker adjustments on your ADS?

    Yep. I got @HeadStrong Off-Road's level 3 ADS kit.

    The long term plan:
    1. Let the suspension settle and then adjust to get it to where I think it needs to be for mods to come (see 2.);
    2. Install a dual battery system (I am going with a @HeliMedic kit). Add a winch and @Mobtown Offroad bumpers up front and rear. I was going to do this this fall but now I think I will kick it to the spring while I get the feel for the new suspension.
    3. Adjust the suspension as necessary per 2 in the event that I encounter more sag than I expected.

The unspoken steps 0, 1a, 2a and 3a is try not to get murdered by my wife who didn't see why we needed a truck to begin with. :D

Hahahaha! Take her to some special, remote places and im sure it will make up for it!

Dont be scared to change the clicker settings. I like to run it differently based on road surface type and condition as well as speed. I hardly run it on 0 clicks as its really fluffy and bouncy. Speed bumps will be felt since compression isnt beign dampened very much or at all. I usually run 5-10 clicks on the road. If we are flying offroad, ill set it at max. Its worth it to get out, change them all, and try the same part of some dirt or rocks to see what the change does. I didnt change the settings when I first got it installed and i totally should have. Its the coolest thing to dial your suspension to how you want it to feel or current road condition.

Oh, agreed! First item on my agenda after install is actually to experiment with them. I am going to use the regular paved road, a really round sandy washboard backroad in the NC Sand Hills region that I discovered a couple of years ago and some rougher local unpaved roads to test out the settings.

Kick ass! I will say, the ADS setup was the best mod ive done on my taco. Its had the most impact vs anything else.

I was very nervous about the add a leaf, but have zero regrets.

The truck is not harsh or jittery unloaded with the added leaf. I don’t notice the leaf has been added really at all other than the fact the truck does not bottom out or sag and sits a bit higher (gained 1.5”.....had lost .5” with my shell......so now sit 1” over stock height). Unless I think about it, the truck drives so much better it just feels “normal” if that makes sense. It has left me convinced that the Toyota springs are tuned for an empty bed only, and maybe by adding my shell (160lbs) I had already ruined the factory ride.

I took my truck to an actual spring shop. They cut open the factory Toyota pack and added a leaf in the middle after asking me what I was after. They told me they could dial the resulting lift to within 1/4”, so I asked for 1.5” over what I was at, which is exactly how it ended up. The stock pack was then re-banded and longer U-bolts were installed. If this service is available in your area it is something to consider. So far no squeaks, smoother ride, less wallowy, and have yet to hit the bump stops.

I may pursue this. There’s the ad a leaf option from multiple vendors but most of them self the overload leaf and/or leaf packs. Mine rides fine but want to lift the rear in a more appropriate and beneficial way.

    Thanks man!

This is great info, I’m mainly driving the street with some off road and will AAL because with a steel bumper, bed matt, Hi Lift jack, 20 gallons gas and other shizzle I’m already near 500 lbs. The rear has already dropped over 1”.

Looks like AAL sets are less than $100

You’re welcome. I am sure the vendor options are also good. I was lucky to have a shop in my area that could work with the Toyota pack. At the end of the day, it’s a leaf spring, it’s not really rocket science. We’ve been using these things, and tuning these things, since the time of stagecoaches.
