I was parked in my driveway and was backed into from about 20ft away. My ball hitch was still in. Here’s what it looks like now...
    A8C5F760-DA7C-45FD-A6AD-C0CB55340BB5.jpg
Bumper and hitch definitely angled down now.

Here are the mounting brackets and bolts...

Definitely bent brackets and shifted where the bolts are.

    Here is the hitch sticker...

The truck that backed into me was only 20ft or so away in the driveway, couldn't have been going that fast. I know having the ball hitch in creates a lot of extra leverage but it seems like a lot of damage for a small hit.
Now my questions are is this hitch still good to go? Try to straighten? Should I buy a new hitch? New bumper? Hitch/Bumper combo? Any suggestions/recommendations would be great.
Its a 2003 Double Cab. I do use a trailer often for work and leisure/camping.

New hitch, just for the peace of mind. Likely the bumper goes back in place once the hitch is unbolted.

I was wondering if you can remove your hitch and show the damage? Having been rear ended 3 times in the 21 years of ownership of my truck and had the insurance company replace my bumper & necessary body work. Your bumper damage is minimal. You might be able to remove the hitch, heat it up, and hammer it out to straigthen out the hitch. Do you intend to buy a new bumper? You can buy a new aftermarket bumper/hitch or aftermarket bumper from one of the custom armor fabrication companies that frequent this forum. The aftermarket armor bumper would be a lot more stronger/durable and would survive a rear end from another vehicle compared to the OEM bumper that you have which is designed to fold on impact.

I still have my OEM bumper with a Draw Tite hitch mounted on it, but would consider a 4X Innovations rear bumper with hitch combo: https://www.4xinnovations.com/1995-2004-Tacoma-Rear-Plate-Bumper_p_114.html

Will there be any insurance claim or is it a Family Matter??

Easier to see what you have with the bumper and hitch removed.

Tell the rest of the story how do you back straight enough to only catch the hitch?

102" trailer never saw the truck till the impact ?

I will take it off tomorrow and post a picture. I do like the look of those 4X bumpers. A little to pricey for me though. Thanks!

It is a "Family Matter" I was parked directly behind the person in front of me. I'm sure out of habit they just got in backed up and bang. The hitch was the furthest thing sticking out. I wish there was a better story!

I was rear ended a month ago and my bumper looks like yours. Settled with the ins co for $640. I replaced bumper and added a hitch for more protection in my rear.I bought a new bumper and hitch for $240.

I would replace the hitch at the least, especially if you are an active tower.

I bet your bumper will go back straight, once you change the hitch. Make sure you check the ball and pin for damage before using again. Did you get the info from the truck that backed into you?
