I'm debating whether or not to get these aftermarket bumper caps for my chrome bumper:
    upload_2019-10-25_18-55-50.jpg

They aren't expensive, but they also seem pretty cheesy. Should I take off the original and paint them, or is it worth the $100 to buy the paintable ones you slap on in 10 minutes? (I'm a measure once cut once kind of girl).

I was gonna get a metal rear bumper but want to do too many other things right now - so this is my compromise.

Any real life experience with either would be appreciated.

I have the bumpershellz in bedliner coating, look and work great! Matches the rest of the bumper perfectly.

I sanded and painted a chrome bumper for my sons 4Runner and I can tell you.....it is a job sanding chrome. I used a 30gallon compressor and a circular sander too and it still took awhile. Make sure if you go this route to buy an adhesion promoter before painting. Prep is everything in making a paint job last. It takes awhile to do it right.

I have a profoundly stupid question. I haven't seen it asked so here goes. What about vinyl wrap on these pieces? I hate the chrome but getting a paint match bumper cover seems either expensive or very labor intensive. I know so little about vinyl wraps, is there a reason some enterprising etsy vendor isn't selling vinyl to cover these?

I don't care if it's black or if it matches my quicksand paint. I wanted to get a metal rear bumper but that's going to have to wait for the other upgrades I want to do, so looking for something cheap and somewhat temporary.

I'm going to try my shot of vinyl wrapping my bumper caps around Christmas time. I hate the chrome caps with my white truck so I want to wrap them matte black to go with all the other black stuff on it. Should be easy and it's a lot cheaper than buying the new caps...just going to take a little finesse and patience.

FYI: a 5ftx2ft roll of matte black 3m vinyl (the good stuff) is $30 shipped on Amazon prime

Plastidipped mine also. Did it on my other trucks as well. Would just reapply when needed. Builds up layers overtime. Which makes it stronger.

I have the "paintable" bumpershellz and had them painted to match the truck. Looks great, it was the only option they offered at the time I ordered.

Painting the chrome existing pumper may not be the best option, I'm not sure how well the paint would stick to the chrome or if it could scratch off easily.

I plasti dipped mine along with my badges and I love it. Looks so much better. Easy to maintain just spray over if it scratches
