Hello guys. I have had my 16 Tacoma for 2 months, and really love it! But yesterday, when i was backing up, i accidentally hit a light pole behind me... I thought it didn't hit that hard as i felt, but it turned out that left corner of the rear bumper kinda pops out...

I am really upset about it... I went to 2 body shops today, and they both said that you need to replace the bumper, as well as the center support thing... and it is gonna cost around $900 totally. Really??

Do you guys think if it can be repaired, instead of replacing it? And since it was all my fault, is my insurance not gonna cover any of it?

If you claim it on your insurance they will make you pay for the deductible and it will mark your vehicle record as the truck being in an accident/having a claim made against it. Good chance that record is referenced by potential buyer in the future and they will devalue your truck if selling private party or trading it in. Also it will make your insurance premium rates go up to where you may end up paying more in the long run on premiums vs. just paying out of pocket. I recommend getting at least 3 quotes from other body shops and paying cash to have it fixed.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
At $900, you could almost pick up an aftermarket bumper for it.

Honestly, it doesn't look all that bad. But I understand with it being new, you want it as good as it can look for as long as you can.

Hi. I was expecting some where around like $400 to get it fixed, $900 is way too much... It is just really hard to live with that since I love my truck so much :(

Take it to at least 3 different auto body collision repair shops. Ask them how much it would cost to adjust the mount. If it is truly damaged and needs replaced it is probably $600+ just in parts from Toyota then another 2 to 3 hours they'll charge you for labor so no I am not surprised that it's $900 quote if they are replacing the entire bumper OEM

If it actually needs to be replaced live with it until you can save up the $900, good chance in the next 2 to 3 years you whack it again or someone else maybe rear ends you and you get to claim the damage on their insurance! :)

Drive it like it is. Someone may rear end you, then they can pay to fix it.

I hope that's not the case, but you never know.

Thanks for the suggestions. What if I just tell insurance that it got hit by unknown person in the parking lot or neighborhood... and not aware of it when that happened. Or should i just claim it?

Well first off that would be insurance fraud but secondly -- they'll still make you pay for the deductible unless you can prove there is another responsible party. Not worth jailtime for a $900 bumper and not worth raising insurance rates and adding an accident to the vehicle's record just for a little bumper booboo

Get under there yourself with some sockets and wrenches and see if you can adjust it so its not so bad. I backed into something on my old truck and i loosened the bolts, jumped on it and it fell into place.

Then you'd be eligible to run for public office. Along with the other liars.

    Have some honor.

Still looks good and it is hardly damaged. Be waste of your money and time to deal with insurance.

I had an F-150 back in the 80's that I bent the bumper up some how. I left it like that for a while and someone later hit me in the rear and pushed it back into place, didn't cost me a dime. And his Nissan's front end was a mess.

As for yours, I would look underneath and see if it can be persuaded back to, or close to its original position and live with it. The next hit won't hurt so bad now.

Regardless, your deductible will still come into play and they will put it on your record :brianr: and up your rates. Better to just "eat" the smaller claims (and I'm not suggesting that $900 is small but in insurance-speak it is).

Karma.. never forget about that. What goes around blah blah... False claim it, get it fixed then you get truck back and you back into an even bigger pole! Not worth it AND you get to look in the mirror in the AM and feel pretty good yer not a jerk a-hole.

I did something similar - wasn't my fault tho. I could have claimed it and got it fixed - mine is pushed in about 1/4" tops cant even see it with a scratch in the clear coat...

I'm not too bummed now, time heals shit. At the time I was pissed for sure. Lady that hit me was a a-hole I was good to go and she wanted to call the cops for some reason along with a bunch of dramma... I wanted to shoot myself.

I'm going to remove the bumper caps and paint them black to match the rest of the bumper.

If your careful you can probably push that back in. I bent my bumper on my Nissan Frontier backing into a pole. Took a ratchet strap and hooked it to the pole and my bumper and slow pulled it back out. Looked almost as good as new. Yours your gonna have to push in and maybe up. Could do probably back against a solid surface and put something between it to protect the paint and just slowly give it pressure in reverse. Don't do it if you don't k ow what your doing and make sure you have a solid surface your doing this on. Hate to see you kill, hurt or harm someone or something though.
