Bumper extention

Has anyone replaced the black plastic piece behind the chrome (or painted) plastic cover on their bumper corner?
I backed into a stump in my blind spot, and broke both. Got the parts.
Need to know how the base piece attaches. I hope I don't have to pull the bumper.

edit: You'll first need to remove remove the trailer lights connector (if equipped) and also the license plate lights then as pictured above remove the black license plate/foot step bezel to gain access to all the bolts underneath to be able to remove the side stay. Be easier with the bumper removed but it's probably doable with it installed.

 

The piece I need to replace is under the plastic painted corner which holds that painted piece.

 

Thanks for the detail, but I only need to remove an end with out dissembling the entire bumper.
I'm hoping to do this without pulling the whole shebang!

 

If you're referring to these then follow the link I pasted above. Like I said it's probably doable with the bumper still installed but only one way to find out unless someone who's done it chimes in to confirm.

 

Yes, that is the piece. The illustration really doesn't show the attachment bolts (that I can see). I'm crawling under tomorrow and see what I find. Been too rainy the last couple of days.

I'll try, but my crappy flip phone is hard to use. Maybe I'll try my real camera.

 

I have replaced a few of those. The hardest part is going to be getting the "step" piece off. The black plastic part that covers the entire top of the bumper. It has a few dozen clips that are a PITA. And you will probably break a few of them. But once that is off. Its just few bolts holdoing it on.

So, is there any trick to popping those clips, or is it just "poke and hope"?
Is that plastic step flexible enough to just detach that end and bend it up to access the bolts?

I wouldn't bend it, it is not flexible. As far as the clips. Just push in on the clip and pop it up. It can be tricky and will take some time.

 

OK!! Got it done on the truck without pulling the whole plastic step!
Two bolts on the bottom. Easypesy
For the top four, you'll need to pop all the clips to the middle. Some are hard to find and get to, but I used a flash light and small pry bar. There is one push rivet on the bottom. Once that half is loose, you can pry it up enough to get at the bolts. I used the head of my flash light. (double duty)
Don't do this with out a 12mm gear wrench! (ask me how I know) There is little to no clearance for a socket. The worst bolt is behind the license plate light. I spent a 1/2 hour making 1/8th of a turn at a time on a tight rusty bolt!
But it can be done!
