I am getting a new tubed bumper soon, however when I tried to take the aluminum impact bar off to take measurements it did not slide off easily at all. I had to hammer it off as it was getting hung up on the 3 studs on each side and actually shaving the metal inside the holes. I think either my impact bar is slightly warped or the studs on the frame are a little bit bent.

So anyways, my first question for you guys is did any of you with an aftermarket bumper run into this problem when taking off your impact bar?

My final question for you guys is, do any of you have your bumper impact bar lying around and would you mind letting me borrow it just long enough to see if it slides on easily (ruling out bent studs and solidifying that my bar is messed up)?

    Thank you in advance.

I have had 3 people here in Arizona (one of those three was Chris4x4) tell me that they are supposed to slide right off once you loosen and remove the nuts. Of course, not one of those people has their impact bar anymore.

Well then I would assume some slide right off and some don't :notsure:

If your building a bumper for yourself why would it mater anyway? Can't you just use your truck to mock it up?

It doesn't really matter at this stage no, it was just something that concerned me and I wanted the piece of mind knowing that nothing was wrong or unusual.

Anyone else want to chime in? Or better yet, does anyone have their impact bar that I could borrow for a very short time period?

    Ah...

Have Chris take a peek at it. It would be pretty hard to bend the frame without bending the aluminum bumper IMO.

Mine had to be knocked off but it was visibly bent. I just helped to days ago with another bumper it looked perfect and still had to be knocked off.

I seem to remember the same thing.
Was there 2 bolts or nuts on the bar that allowed it to move to fit.
I will go take a look at mine to see if I am remembering correctly.
    Back soon.

    Ah Ha.
There are 3 bolts on each side that hold the bracket to the flat bar part on each side.
Loosen those up and it allows some slippage to fit. Then just retorque them after it is in place.
Good luck and let us know if that helps.
