I'm interested in a bumper mounted receiver for an aluminum cargo carrier. I can't find info as to how much weight my bumper can stand. Any thoughts?

On most trucks I've dealt with while working at U-Haul, stock bumper with a ball is rated for 2,000lbs towing, 200lbs tongue weight. If it is above that, it should be stamped on the bumper.

I'm driving from CT to camp in Oregon to see the eclipse, my longest drive ever.

That sounds reasonable. I don't want to torque my bumper.

Just keep throwin' money at it.
Do you have a hitch? If not, just pick up on at U-Haul and buy a hitch mount basket off Craigslist (they are cheap and abundant on there). It would be more solid than mounting something directly to your bumper.
