Rust spots in the same place near the rear license plate. Used Turtle Wax Chrome Polish & Rust Remover. It got it all off and it looks like new. Would recommend staying on top of it and don't let it go to the point that it pits.

I have a 2010 and had the same problem. They replaced it about a year and a half ago and haven't had a problem with the new one. As for fixing it myself, not on a truck I paid twenty six grand for!

Thats the reason i powder coated mine. Was starting to show bad rust on inside. My buddy had a late 90's 4 runner, could put fingers through holes in bumper :(. Powder coating pervents any chance of rusting because inside of bumbers are not coated or corrosion resistant. Good investment in the long run.

Was your replacement chrome bumper sprayed black on the inside? After getting rear ended a couple months back the OEM replacment came with the inside painted...maybe it's been upgraded? My original bumper (2007) never showed signs of rust and I was hesitant about getting a new one after reading about this issue the last couple years. So far this one isn't showing any rust but I'm waxing it just to be on the safe side.

I have an 08 off-road that has rust on the back bumper and the dealer said they know about it and they wouldn't do anything about it.... went out and bought some chrome cleaner.

Oh what a feeling...... Seriously? Tin foil and coke? Seriously? Is that the secret being happy and rust free with your Tacoma? Why can Toyota not solve any of these long standing issues. It is not as if chrome bumpers are a new thing....
