I just bought a 2011 Tacoma today, the second owner had 3 HUGE stickers on the tailgate of the truck. I ended up using Turtle Wax sticker remover, but lots of the overspray went on the plastic bedding and also the tailgate itself. I am worried that this solution will end up killing my paint and plastic pieces. I had to use lots of elbow grease to remove all the adhesive and now it looks very streaky/smeary!

I tried to rub it down with warm water but still it looks very messy. The stickers are removed but it just looks a mess. Any advice for a newbie?

    Thanks,
    Frank

I sure hope not! How do I get the streaking off? This truck wasn't cheap... I saved for years...

    Wash afterwards.

You just spread liquified adhesive all over the tailgate instead of removing it.

Sounds like that, anyway. Use a couple rags and use a different section each time you wipe a decent amount

GooGone didn't work as well. It's all off now, just looks very messy.

Guess my money went down the drain today. Maybe I should just sell the truck?

.. if it's messy it isn't all off.

You can listen or you can figure it out.

If you want, go buy a clay bar and clay the tailgate if you think it's all removed.

Report back after it has been clay'd.

Not sure if you're serious but there is no reason you shouldn't be able to, as @DCSBFTMFW said, clay bar and maybe polish and wax to clean it up. I had pretty bad willow damage on my bedside when I removed my decals and a few hours of detailing cleaned it right up

It took me over an hour to get these 3 decals removed. Now all I see is streaks of white dirt? The color of the truck is white.

DCSBFTMFW is an idiot. Don't listen to him.

Instead you should go online seeking help on sticker adhesive removal, then when you get good advice, don't care.

Sell the truck OP. It's over your head.

    Adhesive is white.

    Coincidence?

    No.

Listen instead, and then go do.

If its a white truck, just hit it with polishing compound. Its single stage paint and should clean right up....

You're talking in circles buddy... Regardless of it being a PITA you will need to either detail it using the appropriate tools or pay someone else to do it if you aren't willing to live with it
