If you want to give him the benefit of the doubt I guess since the TRD shocks are blue and yellow Bilsteins it may seem to be aftermarket to someone unfamiliar with Toyotas. Most of the time factory suspension is generic black and that's true of SR5 and lower on Tacomas, too. In your case those are the parts Toyota bolted on at the factory.

It doesn't look like it had a body lift.
& the price wasn't influenced by lift. He told me after we had already agreed on a price that the vehicle had a small lift. They're a reputable used car place here in San Diego. 5 stars out of 95 reviews on yelp.

From what you're describing I doubt it has body lift. It certainly does not have suspension lift.

It probably doesn't have frame damage, but if it does it's not from the suspension fitting. IOW, it could have been wrecked or taken off road. You can trust Carfax to some extent but that's not the gospel since not all data gets entered in the databases they use.

It's a reasonable assumption that the only damage possible on that truck, though, is frame corrosion and being in San Diego that's not likely unless it lived on the beach.

I don't trust used car dealers in general, but this guy seemed genuine compared to many others I've dealt with.

Okay, now that we've established that the suspension and lift are stock- If i buy the 5100's, i read that there are 3 settings for height, up to 2.5 inches. So this would allow me to get 2.5" higher? I don't care about the cosmetics of a 2.5" lift as much as i value my tires not rubbing on the wheel wells

lots of good places here in SD some bad ones too.

The place I bought my WRX from said the car was in great shape.
Turns out the original owner never changed the oil and my oil lines going to the turbo were plugged up. that was expencive. The deal is no longer open lol

If they repaired any damages, they did a damn good job at fixing it up, and making all the parts look like they have 88k miles of wear on them. If i had a lift id snap a pic of the undercarriage. It doesn't look like its ever been offloaded. Also, the interior is immaculate. For being an '11, i think that one owner took care of her.

I got mine from Auto Proz in El Cajon. They actually maintain a nice inventory of tacomas and 4runners.

Figures. I don't have 5100s and don't routinely shop for them to know if that is high or low.

That $339 makes the OP's $300 pro deal seem not so pro.

Still a good price. But Headstrong always has great prices and free shipping to boot.

That might be, however it places them in a significant minority.

However they do not seem to have much knowledge of Tacomas--what you have there is a dead stock TRD Sport suspension--which though a "lift" as compared to a plain ol' base model Taco, is not some aftermarket modification of questionable quality. If you can get that verified in writing by a Toyota dealer and send a certified copy of same, along with your retraction of approving the waiver, to the "reputable" used car place...

I've replaced my stock SR5 suspension with 5100s and here's what I noticed.

    1. I did the rear first and the ride was noticeably better. The stock rear shocks appeared to be bad since they would not extend on their own once compressed.

    2. I did the front a week later and the ride quality decreased by a large margin over stock shocks. The stock shocks appeared to still work fine but I did notice the stocks would compress and extend with much less force.

Another thing worth mentioning, the 5100s are on the stock height setting.

I used an app on my phone to measure and record vibration before and after and the data matched my seat of the pants feeling.
