Well... I stand corrected. I didn't think anything could make me give up my Messenger but I might have just found it. We played PvP all night last night and one of the guys we were playing with kept on trying to get me to use the Piece of Mind Pulse Rifle. I have had the pattern unlocked for quite a while now and actually had one crafted on my character. It was only level 7 when I tried it out last night and the only perks I had on it was the ones that were available when you first craft it. Polygonal Rifling for the barrel, Appended Mag for the the Mag option, Overflow, and Elemental Capacitor since it gives a huge bump to stability when running Void. That was it. Mediocre roll at best. But I tried it out anyway and HOLY SHIT!!! This thing is amazing. It is stable as fuck (even with the shit rolls that I had on it at the time). I played the rest of the night with it and leveled it up to level 13 just so I could open up the perks I actually want on it.

This is what I settled on. +10 Enhanced Intrinsic Stability, Arrowhead Brake, Ricochet Rounds (might change this later to High Cal so it will flinch more), Heating Up (may change to Perpetual Motion), and Enhanced Elemental Capacitor which I will not be changing. I only had enough materials for Enhanced Intrinsic Stability and Enhanced Elemental Capacitor. So when I gain enough materials I'm going to either use Enhanced Heating Up or Enhanced Perpetual Motion.

This is what the stat distribution looks like right now.

This is the actual stat breakdown as it stands right now.

It's sitting at an 88 in recoil direction which means it drifts slightly left. I could run a Counterbalance Mod on it to take it to 100 and make it perfectly vertical. But I would advise against that personally. It's so stable right out of the box that you barely notice the drift. So full auto on this is almost a must since it fires at 540 RPM. It's still a fucking laser. And the final thing is it comes with the Origin Trait Land Tank which gives you +10 to Resilience after a kill and additional damage resistance. You don't get additional damage resistance in PvP but you do get the +10 in Resilience which can be felt in game.

This was my very first game with it. I hardly moved out of this spot and was able to take on multiple people at a time because of Land Tank. Since it's a 540 it fires just as fast as my Messenger with Desperado proc'd and will burn shit down quickly.

I'll let the gameplay speak for itself. Highly recommend this gun for PvP.

*EDIT* I ate that scatter grenade and kept on firing through it. It builds that much confidence. Obviously I didn't play the objective. I just wanted to test it out. It didn't disappoint.

One other thing you might see me do in some of these videos is if I'm running a Sub Machine Gun is I'll pull it out since Sub Machine Guns are lightweight frame weapons which increase your movement speed from one place to another. This works for all classes to allow you to get around the map faster. And on the Hunter mobility is key. After that game and realizing just how good it was I started to get much more aggressive with it since it allows you to play aggressive. I'm going to test it out in Trials tonight and see how it does. We'll see?

Was able to finally get all the materials to reshape the Piece of Mind yesterday. I decided on Arrowhead Brake, Ricochet Rounds, Enhanced Perpetual Motion, and Enhanced Elemental Capacitor. Took it into Trials last night and had no issue with going up against most anyone we went up against. This "might" be the best Pulse Rifle in the game and it is certainly the best perk combination that fits my playstyle.

For those wondering what Memento's are and how to get them (I wondered myself also), I had one drop at the Lighthouse last night. Turns out at weapon level 1 it gives you another kill tracker. This kill tracker is separate from the other kill trackers since this one is Trials specific and tracks kills made in Trials only. The second item it gives you is a title for the weapon at level 20. The Trials title is "Pathmaker". Once you hit level 30 with your weapon it gives you a Trials specific Shader to put on your weapon. I'd imagine that this is the most exclusive shader in the game because:

1: You have to go Flawless to get the Memento to drop.

2: Because you have to have a crafted weapon leveled up to 30 to be able to apply the shader.

The shader looks pretty damn cool. It turns your weapon gold and also has a moving effect to it.

What the Piece of Mind looks like with the shader applied. Can't show you what it looks like as it moves across the weapon.

What the Memento looks like when slotted.

And just a random picture I took while flying into PvP yesterday. Only 0.084% of the entire Destiny population has this ship. It is the rarest "earn-able" ship in the game. The only ships that are rarer are the ones purchased from Eververse. So to actually see 4 at the exact same time is unusual to say the least.

I can honestly say that this weekend was absolutely the hardest weekend I've ever had in Trials. I don't know what it was but every fucking match was sweaty as fuck. I still maintain that I understand why Bungie never wanted Trials to be a solo playlist. I counted all my matches this weekend and I played 157 matches. The vast majority in Freelance. Burnout is one of my favorite maps but it was just brutal this week for some reason. Freelance didn't help. Can't tell you the number of times that I got to the final round only for someone to drop. Those motherfuckers can suck a dick. I didn't have much better luck with LFG with the exception of tonight. Not to say that the people that I met and played with weren't nice or toxic. Quite the contrary. All of the people that I played with were for the most part extremely nice. In fact I stuck around for some that I knew that we would never get to the Lighthouse because they just lacked the skill. But I wanted to help them.
The two guys I played with tonight were from England and funny as fuck. They were also amazing at the game. Don't think I've laughed that hard or had as much fun in Trials in a long time.

I've got two different things that I had issues with in Trials. One Trials related and the other is just weapon related.

1: FUCKING DO AWAY WITH FREELANCE TRIALS!!!! It is fucking horrible. It splits the player base up and people that leave should be banned from PvP for a month. Fuck them. I hope their dog dies.

2: This is more weapon related. The Piece of Mind that is pictured above I crafted originally with Ricochet Rounds for the extra range and handling. But I switched it to High Cal rounds so it would flinch people and throw off their shots. "If" you do craft one (and I HIGHLY recommend you do), stick with Ricochet Rounds. High Cal just doesn't flinch enough to throw off someone's shot since it is a rapid fire Pulse that doesn't do as much damage per burst as an aggressive frame. But it fires so fast that it will still burn people down with one of the fastest TTK's in the game. Especially if you have it set up like the one above. It's a fucking laser. I put 278 kills on it in Trials this weekend and I can promise it will top the Trials Meta Report for this weekend. It is truly the best Pulse Rifle in the game if you set it up like I've set it up. Never thought I'd give up my Messenger but this is basically a Messenger with Desperado already proc'd. Just don't put High Cal rounds on it or you'll be wasting a perk.

This is last weeks Trials Meta Report. This week will be no different. The Piece of Mind will top the board again. It's just that good. Go out right now and get the patterns and craft that fucker. You will not regret it.

Called it. If you don't have a Piece of Mind you need to get one. Get the 5 patterns it takes to craft one. You will not be disappointed. #1 in Trials Meta Report again. I think that is where it will stay for the rest of this season no matter the map. It works at all ranges.

Speaking of IB... Was bored last night and not many people were on so I just LFG'd it for something to do. Never dropped below a 2.0 and more than half the games went like this

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1ErrMlU_3E

The guy that I joined on left for a few mins to eat so another dude wanted to know if I wanted to play Survival so I said sure. Well... He brought his buddy along and I wasn't paying attention to what he was using. Unfortunately you can't hear them talk but he was all over this dude so much for not getting any kills that the dude "I guess" got pissed off and left. Just as well as he never got a kill and was feeding the other team all our lives. This is how it played out.

Fucking Osteo Striga and some Trace Rifle??? WTF???

    @JayDub

I thought about it for a little bit after you and I talked about PvP the other day (discounting the GT7 and Star Wars rants lol). So I figured I'd set down and give some tips that I've picked up along the way. If anyone still reads this thread, please chime in with any tips you have in case I miss some which I'm sure I will.

I'll go back to the start of D1 where I just didn't play much PvP at all for the first 6-8 months after the game launched because I still wasn't completely sure what the game was going for. I just knew it had potential. D1 and D2 PvP are completely different animals now. When I first stepped foot into PvP in D1 I got my ass handed to me on the regular. If I went positive it was rare. And I have played every FPS out there up to that time. COD, Halo 2-3, etc... And I thought I was good. Turns out, I wasn't in D1. So I had to learn how to compete in D1 and now more importantly in D2. I've become acutely aware of what is happening around me in any given match. Usually within the first min of a match I can tell how it's going to play out. That isn't always a given but it's pretty accurate so you just roll with it no matter how it plays out.

The biggest issue I had to overcome was becoming tilted at people that use weapons that "I" consider are cheesy. Jotuun, La Monarch, etc... Now? I don't even worry about it. It's in the game so you just have to deal with it. There is nothing wrong with people using those weapons because they are in the game. You just have to get to a point where you know who is using those weapons and how to challenge them. BTW... Jotuun is so easy to avoid it's stupid. If you notice a Jotuun user on the field? You will see that they are "almost" always at the bottom of the scoreboard each game.

So on to the tips that I've picked up. I'll concentrate on 6v6 since that is where most people spend their time. I'll throw in some Trials / Comp tips at the end. Someone else chime in with anything that they have picked up:

1: Radar is the most important item on your screen. I cannot overemphasize just how important the radar is. I'll keep it simple and use the regular radar and not the enhanced radar you can get with certain exotics or class abilities. If the red on the radar shows up on the edge of the "pie" it means that they are close but just an indication of where they are in relation to you. As that piece of the pice starts to fill up red you know they are pushing you or you are pushing them. At the very least you are getting closer to that other player. Let's assume you get lucky and it's just a 1v1 situation. From that point it should become how can "I" get the most adventitious position to take on that fight. The radar will also tell you whether they are above are below you by looking at the gradient of that piece of the pie. So you have to take that into account. "Usually" if they have the high ground? Try to find a different position to take that fight. If you find yourself alone in more than a 1v1 and away from your teammates? It's almost always best to back out of that fight. You "might" get lucky and get the kill on two. But much more often than not you will be team shot to shit. If I find myself in that position I usually back out to a more advantageous position to where I might be able to split them up to take the fight to a 1v1 with multiple people.

2: Second most important thing you can do is learn the maps. Learn every single aspect of every single map. Know that if you are playing Control that you only need to keep 2 zones. No reason to go for a third unless you want to lock the map in IB. Learn the rotations that "most" teams use. Learning all the sniper lanes, choke points, etc... is key to coming out on top.

3: Stick with your team. If your running solo? Just find at least one or two that are running the same direction. It's always easier to team shoot even if you are going up against multiple enemies. Getting caught by yourself? That usually doesn't end well. I've learned how to deal with multiple enemies at once but if it gets hot? There is no shame in backing out of an unwinnable fight. Better to live and fight another day.

4: If you get killed by someone the game tells you who it was and what they used to kill you. Memorize that and their name so the next time you have an idea of how to counter it.

5: Everyone seems to get caught up with what other weapons people are using on the opposing team. I just don't concern myself with that. The MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do is run with what you feel comfortable with. The sandbox has changed so much that "most" weapons are viable in the right hands. If you have multiple La Monarchs on the field you already know it's going to be a harder match. But it's not insurmountable. Do what they do. Peek shoot. If you get hit with a bow it does huge chuck damage. Don't peek it again until you heal up. Find a different angle. La Monarch is annoying to play against because you don't even have to get hit with it directly. The guy next to you can get hit and it spreads the poison to you also (which also makes you volatile). Wait until the volatility runs out before engaging again. But the most important thing is do not get caught up with what others are running. Use what you are comfortable with and stick with it. The worst mistake you can make (especially starting out) is swapping weapons mid match to a weapon you are less familiar with. Your game will suffer from that point on.

6: Don't worry if you have bad game. It happens. It happens to me. Sometimes I feel like I can't hit shit. And sometimes you will match up against a full stack and they are aggressive as shit. Just play your game. It is what it is and there is always the next match.

7: Know when, where, and how to best use your abilities for whatever class you are running. Know the best time to use whatever super you are using. Abilities are part of the game and knowing when and where to use them can turn the tide of a game.

8: This goes for Quickplay, Comp, or Trials. Use the 60/40 rule. Meaning keep 60% of your character behind cover. Getting caught out in no mans land is a sure sign you are an easy kill.

Now... This has more to do with Trials and Comp. First... I would not recommend even stepping foot into either until you have mastered the above tips. Trials and Comp are completely different animals. I'll start with Comp.

1: Don't be that guy that uses your team's pool of lives. Stick close to your team and don't lone wolf it unless you are sure you can get an unnoticed flank. Trials and Comp are the true "team" mode in the game where communication is the key.

2: If you lose? Unlike Quckplay, your score goes down. Yes... you will lose. The object is to win more than you lose. That's it.

    Trials:

1: First and foremost... It is the most hyper competitive PvP mode in the game. I cannot overemphasize just how important communication is key to winning in Trials. You MUST know every single inch of a given map.

2: If you damage someone call out the exact numbers you have damaged them for. If you landed crit shots on them or not. How much health they have etc... Try to single that player out to get the pick.

3: Most important tip for Trials. DO NOT BE THE FIRST ONE PICKED.

4: Second most important tip for Trials. DO NOT BE THE FIRST ONE PICKED

5: Third most important tip for Trials. DO NOT BE THE FIRST ONE PICKED

6: Set aside enough time to run a Card. You cannot go into Trials half hearted if you expect to compete. Commit to it fully for the entire card (even if you have to reset).

7: Finally... Just accept that as good as you think you may be? There is always someone out there that is better. Don't sweat it. I use that as a learning experience. "How did they outplay me?" Then I try to either avoid putting myself into that situation or try to learn how they outplayed me and practice on their map movement. Because in the end, Trials is all about map movement.

In the end? It all comes to mindset. You will lose and lose often. The ONLY way to get better is to take the lumps until it becomes second nature. Then you will see improvement. It's like any competitive sport. The more you play the more you will understand and be able to react to those situations. So the only way to get better is to just play and count it as practice. Don't even bother looking at K/D. That isn't the point starting out. Once you learn the maps, how the rotations around the maps, where the lanes are, when you should and shouldn't take a fight, etc... That is when you will see a noticeable improvement.

Most importantly???? Just have fun with it. It's a sandbox that we all get to play in.

Finished up helping everyone that wanted to play IB this last week tonight. Me and one of my clanmates went in so he could finish his IB quest and I recorded the first match of the night. Throughout the entire week I only went negative one time. The rest of the games were 2.0 or above.

So everything I talked about in the post above is put to use in this video. Knowing when to back out of a fight, pushing with teammates always, keeping a barrier of some sort in between who I'm engaged in a fight with, and never letting myself hang out in the open. When I say that the Piece of Mind Pulse Rifle is one of the best weapons in the game, this is what I mean. You can see just how much of a laser beam it is and it reaches out to ranges that "I" feel like it shouldn't since it's a 540 RPM. But it does and it does it well.

My eyes are always on the radar. I know where I am on the map so I'm watching my character in my peripheral vision while my eyes are glued to the radar. That way I can get the drop on anyone before they get the drop on me. When I say that the radar is the most important tool on screen this is what I mean.

Thanks for the tips.. I can honestly say I'm doing most of this.. just not very good.. lol. I guess more times than none, I'm out of position, wind up in no man's land and get caught. I guess I need to work on not pushing quite as hard at times.

I really haven't played much Crucible since the big revamp that changed up the meta and opened things up a little more. I really just need to get back in and play some more.

Sometimes you can do everything right and it still doesn't work out. So don't feel bad if that happens. It happens to me also every once in a while. I won't lie and say that if you are wanting to compete the only real way to get better is to just play it. Kind of keep all of those things in the back of your mind while playing. But for a while it's still going to suck. But... that entire time you will be learning (if you treat it that way).

I'll give you an example: Almost everyday when I get on, one of my friends 11 year old son hits me up almost immediately to play private matches. He asked me the other day if I could carry him to the Lighthouse lol? I told him "I'll try". But he and I play private matches every night until he has to go to bed and then my friend gets on and we'll play. I don't take it easy on him because he has the desire to get better and the only way to get better is to play someone better than you. I would normally take it easy on him but my friend told me to play him like you play in Trials. So that's what I do. He certainly isn't bad... He just doesn't understand how competitive that portion of the game is. I put us on Widow's Court right after he asked that and told him "all I'm going to do is snipe" "I won't use any other weapon". Widow's Court is really one of two true sniper maps in the game. Set the match for 20 mins as usual with a 75 kill limit. Ending score was 75-14. Part of why I picked this was I needed to practice sniping since I haven't done it in a while. But part of this was just to show him that I know every single angle, spawn point, how fast you have to be with a sniper to get that kill, and I know exactly where he will most likely be at any given time.

Here's the difference. He doesn't get tilted when I play him like that. Most people (rightfully so) would get pissed by the 10th time in a row that I sniped them. Not him. He'll keep on trying to find different angles or ways to push that I don't expect. Which is why he earned those 14 kills. I didn't "give" him those kills. He outplayed me. So he's working it out in his head because he's interested in it. And there will come a day where he will beat the living dog shit out of me. But he's excited every time we play and he's always in a good mood.

Mindset is everything. You can have all the skill in the world but if you get frustrated or tilted easily? All that skill goes out the window. I can't say that I didn't used to be that way. I'd try to find a way to blame the way I got killed on anything but "me". But in reality? It was because I pushed a really bad position or I just got fuckin outplayed. So I started recording all my bad matches and I'd watch them afterwards. It's pretty easy to see your mistakes when your watching the match again. Not so easy to see them when you are actually playing. I realized pretty quickly that I either got outplayed or I just made a really dumb decision and paid the price for it. In Trials there is zero wiggle room against most of the teams you will go up against.

I've gotten to the point now that I only check to see if we are running against a full stack while flying in. I do this in 6v6 also. It's gotten to the point that I really don't care what weapons they are using anymore. Sure... 3 invis hunters using La Monarch are going to be a pain but if you close the distance? Not a big deal. I actually relish people using snipers in Trials now. That is one weapon that I will take off the field unless they are a god with it. But "most" people run Hand Cannons, Fusion Rifles, Shotguns, or Submachine Guns in Trials (Snipers ever so often). It tells you exactly what they are running at the beginning of the round so unless they change weapons mid match? I have a pretty good idea how to counter them. I just play "my" game. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. That is the nature of Trials and PvP in general.

Speaking of playing someone better than you. I'll give an example of playing against someone that is the same skill as you. Grasty and I 1v1 each other all the time. We do this mostly for fun. The problem is... We are the same skill level. So neither of us gain much benefit playing against each other. It's more for fun than anything else. The only thing that has helped me playing against him is he has a very unorthodox way of playing. He's one of 12 people in the game that plays Blink on the WL lol. That is probably one of the least used jumps in the game for a WL but it's his style and he has perfected it. So if I happen to run against someone playing Blink in the game I know EXACTLY how to counter it. But that is rare to see. He's also a better Sniper than I am (by a slight margin). So he runs Last Word Sniper. But I have to really pick my lanes before pushing him. I know where he is and I know he'll be hard scoped because he knows where I am also. So to play him I have to find an angle and either jump or slide through that angle to take his Sniper out of play. The Last Word has severe damage falloff so I know what range he can hit me from. So I stay out of that range but also take his Sniper out of the equation. But in the end... Our score is always within a kill or two at the match end.

Where this helps us though is when we play together. I know not to block his lanes and since we communicate all the time, we can make a push using all the tools at our disposal. So it works out in the end. He knows exactly what I'm going to do and I know what he's going to do. So there is some benefit there. Just not as much as playing someone that is better than you.

    Yeah.
I'll just run right at you and hip fire my fusion rifle. I call it the "Spanish Inquisition" style.

Kidding aside, I enjoy doing the private matches with you guys even if I always get my ass handed to me. It does help me improve, but I've got a long way to go.

It's just funny because no one expects that. It would rarely work in a real game but it's funny as hell when you pull it off.

Prime example of you being a Boss lol.
