Thanks man. I had just finished paying it off too. It took a lot to do as those funds came from when working and going to school.

Comprehensive insurance is only about $15 per year. Would have paid for his truck.

You don't even have to have full coverage to add comp. Like I mentioned, I have 4 vehicles with comp only on them. If a tree falls on them, they catch fire or they're stolen, they're covered.

The spiral cable in the steering column was on recall on my 07 and that was a fire hazard according to the recall notice I recieved. Sorry for your loss op.

You live and you learn. Thanks though. Must have for future vehicles. Funniest thing though. If i remember correctly, the guy that sold me the UCA and coilovers also said his truck caught fire after installing them.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here. When you removed the UCA bolt you bent the inner apron out of the way. Somehow the positive battery cable, that goes to the starter, ended up against sharp metal or hot exhaust and the insulation wore/melted through.

Those are not even remotely close to each other. Starter cable runs right along side the motor down to the starter. Uca bolt is right above the frame.

Not to mention the starter cable is full shielded in loom

    I
When i installed the UCA i did so, as they show that on total chaos's install video. I was also careful when it came to biting the cables that ran on that side of the apron. I also made sure that when i rebent kr bent the apron back , i didnt leave any sharo edges or bend marks for thst reason. But ill check that as well. Thanks

Looks like the end housing from a winch, was there a winch on the truck?

OK, sounds like you were real careful with everything. Gonna be real hard to determine the cause of the fire.

If it burned in your driveway, try your homeowners ins. agent. See if they have anything to offer.

I don't see the issue of using a torch to loosen the CAM Bolts. Shops and individuals do this all the time. I really wouldn't think that it simmered after it was broken loose and the tech was right there doing the alignment and re-tightening all the bolts etc afterwards and didn't see anything. Then it sat while his brother paid and then the magic fire continued to simmer all the way home until parked in the driveway and then it caught and blazed out.

Sorry, I don't think that theory holds water.

As said above check your home owners policy.

I know nothing about fire science but it appears the battery got the hottest looking at the carnage. Perhaps just a freak accident. So sorry for your loss hope you get taken care of at least no one got hurt.

from what i see, it's unlikely that the homeowners policy will pay for it...

Total bummer man. It's a long shot but I would pull the homeowners insurance or call you agent and see if there is anything that can be done.

Also , just to dot the i's, are you sure you dont have comprehensive auto insurance?
